Salem Saints have a strong week
Youth Hockey Roundup
The Salem Saints had 14 games this week with a record of 5-1-8 in Valley League play.
The Saints Bantam 1 team remains in first place in the Blue South Division and tied North Reading 1-1 with Tyler Donahue, assisted by Nick Yameen, getting the lone goal. The Bantam 1 squad also recently took home the championship trophy at the Waterville Valley Octoberfest Tournament.
The Peewee 3 team matched up against Burlington at the Valley Forum in Lawrence, winning a back-and-forth, come-from-behind game, 4-3, with Nick Foti and Eddie Ryan each scoring twice.
The Peewee 2 had a great game on Tuesday with a 6-0 win over Marblehead. Goalies Chris Ronan and Andrew Gosson split time in net to earn the shutout. With quick forechecking and backchecking, the kids were flying in a complete win.
Meanwhile the Squirt 1 team lost to Marblehead 4-1 on Saturday afternoon. Goalie Nick Sturgess played a great game keeping the score close until the third period. The only goal for Salem was in the first period by Jacob Sylvester.

Saturday when the University of New Hampshire and Central Connecticut State University meet on the football field.
Londonderry High School graduates Sean Ryan, a redshirt freshman at UNH, will suit up for the Wildcats, while brother Casey Ryan will be dressing as a Blue Devil. They are pictured above in the days they played for the Lancers. -
Power lifters host New England championships
Derry power lifter Carol Bowden described her affinity for lifting weights as almost an obsession. At age 62, she shows no signs of putting down the barbells.

The Derry Demons third-grade and under team remains undefeated. The team traveled to Manchester South on Sunday to take on the Sabres.
