Derry Demons take PeeWee state title

PELHAM — The top-seeded Derry Demons squared off against the second-seeded Bedford Jaguars in the PeeWee State Championship Game on Nov. 9 and came away with a hard-earned 8-0 victory.

Much of the game was a defensive battle of field position. The Demons were able to move the ball deep into Jaguars territory several times in the first half but were kept out of the endzone by a stingy Bedford defense.

The Derry defense was equally as strong, led by impressive play from Ryan Thomas, Evan Sweeney and Jeremy Dietzel.

With 7:07 left in the fourth quarter, the Demons finally found paydirt as Dan Lannan broke off a 21-yard touchdown run. The Derry defense then took over again as Bedford's final two possessions resulted in a safety and an interception by Brandon Patti to seal an 8-0 victory.

The Demons will travel to Bryant University in Rhode Island on Saturday, Nov. 22, in the regional final against the winner of the Massachusetts/Connecticut regional semifinal game. A win by Derry would send the Demons to the National Championships in Florida in December.

This weekend, Derry Demon cheerleaders and football players will be at various locations in the area tagging to raise money for regional finals. If you would like to send in a donation to help these teams, mail it to P.O. Box 118, Derry, NH 03038.
