Derry Demons: Mitey Mite 1 drops a nailbiter to Nashua
The Demons welcomed the Nashua Elks Crusaders to Don Ball Field at Humphrey Park in Derry on Oct. 7.
Time ran out on the Demons on a 4th quarter drive as the Crusaders held on to preserve a 12-6 victory. Nathan Barnhart racked up over 100 yards rushing from the quarterback position including a 70-yard keeper late in the second quarter. Barnhart also made several big tackles during the game. Jackson Sullivan, Ryan Kittery and Ryan Sigman also put forth strong defensive efforts.
Mitey Mite 2 Rolls Over Hudson
After dropping a couple of close games the last two weeks, the Demons Mitey Mite 2 team put everything together in an impressive win over the Hudson Bears 25-0. Derry spread the scoring around with Nico Buccieri, Zakary McCloud, Mike Faragi and Jeffrey Bukunt finding the endzone. Derek St. Pierre was instrumental in the scoring explosion as well with several great blocks. The solid team effort defense was highlighted by an interception by Buccieri and some big hits from Bukunt and Ryan Kirby.
Jr. PeeWee 1 Shuts Out Keene
The Demons Jr. PeeWee 1 team made the long trip to Keene a worthwhile one on Sunday with a 20-0 blanking of the Knights. Riley Cahill was outstanding in the victory. Cahill had an interception return for a touchdown and also scored on a 12-yard TD run. Quarterback Tyler Busby capped off another Demons drive with a 3-yard quarterback keeper for a score. Joey Lydick and Aidan Sullivan were strong on defense.
Jr. PeeWee 2 Holds Off Hudson
The hard hitting Bears gave the Demons all they could handle, but Derry was able to notch a 24-20 victory thanks to a few long touchdown runs. Tyler Lennon opened the scoring for the Demons with a 21-yard scamper. Bret Dattilo then gave the Demons some breathing room with long scoring runs of 58 and 81 yards.
Todd Billeter also found the endzone on a 14-yard rush. Defensively, Dattilo had a key interception and Lennon made several big stops from the cornerback position including a 4th down stop as time was running out in the game with the Bears inside the Demons' 15-yard line.
PeeWees Lose For First Time
The PeeWees bid for a perfect regular season ended on Sunday as the visiting Hudson Bears slowed down the normally potent Demons offense. The Bears were able to pull off an 8-0 upset by consistently making big plays to stop Derry drives. Jake Burton and Shawn Murray had key stops for the Demons on defense.
Jr. Midgets Fall To Hudson
The Hudson Bears came out firing on all cylinders from the opening gun as they jumped out to a 20-0 lead in the first quarter and never looked back. Demons quarterback Greg Bousnakis hooked up with Shiloh Vanhyll for several big pass plays including a 47-yard touchdown, but it wasn't enough. The Bears won the game 34-6.
