Demon PeeWees remain perfect


DERRY — The Derry Demons PeeWee team took its 4-0 record on the road to face the tough Bedford Jaguars, who also entered the game with a perfect record.

The Demons put together a tremendous effort on both sides of the ball to come away with an impressive 26-0 victory.

On the ground, Dan Lannan and David Dupont both broke away with touchdown scampers of more than 40 yards. The Demons also connected on two touchdown passes. Evan Sweeney hit Jake Lisauskis from 35 yards out and Matt Muser tossed a four-yard TD pass to Jake Burton. Defensively, the shutout was highlighted by terrific performances by Ryan Thomas, Richie Berardi, Derek Zeiba and Jeremy Dietzel.

Mitey Mite 1 downs Hudson

The Demons managed to find the end zone four times in sloppy conditions in Hudson and came away with a 26-6 win. Nathan Barnhart had two touchdowns. Sam Goudreault broke free for a 55-yard touchdown run. Ryan Sigman also scored a touchdown, his first of the year. Ryan Kittery and Damian Flannery anchored the Demons' defense along with Cameron Harris, who made a touchdown-saving tackle. Shane McCann pitched in with a fumble recovery.

Mitey Mite 2 edged In Nashua

Derry put forth a solid defensive effort, not even yielding a first down in the first half. When Nico Buccieri broke free for a 55-yard touchdown run in the final minutes of the second quarter, it looked as if that was all it would take to seal the win. However, on a broken play in the third quarter, the Nashua Crusaders were able to score on a 57-yard run. They then were successful on the extra point conversion and held on to win 7-6. Buccieri and Jeffrey Bukunt were outstanding defensively throughout the game. Mike Faragi and Ryan Kirby had fumble recoveries for the Demons.

Jr. Pee Wee 1 falls to Hudson

The Demons were unable to stop an excited Bears squad in Hudson. Riley Cahill had the lone Derry score on a 53-yard touchdown run. Cahill had several other long runs during the game. Defensively, Aidan Sullivan, Evan Rodgers, Joey Lydick and Cahill had big tackles. The Bears won 27-6.

Jr. Pee Wee 2 outguns Nashua

Brett Dattilo scored three touchdowns to help lead the Demons to a 40-14 victory over the Crusaders in Nashua. Dattilo ran 55 yards for one touchdown. He also had a 59-yard punt return and a 72-yard kickoff return for touchdowns. Cam Digiacomo scored his first touchdown of the season on a 21-yard burst. Nicky Coombs and Todd Billeter also had rushing TD's. Cam Peredna had a successful point-after kick. Defensively, Billeter complimented his offensive production with several big hits, Jake Reed made some nice tackles and Tyler Gendron had an interception.

Jr. Midgets can't stop Razorbacks

The Derry Demons Jr. Midget team ran into a talented Razorbacks team on the road in Pelham Sunday. Pelham/Windham proved too much for the Demons, which has been hit hard by injuries. The Razorbacks won the game 29-0.

Derry Wolverines

JV squad nipped by Souhegan

The JV Wolverines played on another wet Saturday night against a real big tough Souhegan team.

With a final score of 14-8, time simply ran out on the Wolverines. Luke Testa threw for the only Wolverine score. Matt Madden, Brett Connal and Nick Mazzola combined for 173 yards running behind the offensive line of Mike Martinoli, Kyle Swirbliss and Marc Hagen. The Wolverine's defense let only 133 total yards with great plays by Brett Harris with five tackles and a fumble recovery, Brett Connal with eight tackles and a sack, and Kyle Guilmain with eight tackles

Varsity blanked by Souhegan

Although the Wolverine varsity stopped Souhegan with a fumble recovery by Jacob Whorf on the opening set of plays, the Sabers' offensive squad was so pumped up that the Wolverines could not hold them off.

For the Wolverines' defense, the high tacklers were Vill Sengvanhpheng with eight tackles and Joey DiCarlo with seven tackles.

The offense also had a tough time against the Souhegan defense and although Manny Latimore ran for 84 yards, the offense couldn't get the ball into the end zone.

The Wolverines host their rivals the Manchester Bears at home on Saturday, Oct. 4, at 6 p.m..

Games played week of Sept. 20-21

Varsity knocks off Tewksbury

The Wolverines played its first game out of state in Tewksbury, Mass., and had its hands full with a pumped-up Tewksbury team looking to knock off the first place Wolverines, but fell short. After back and forth scores, the Wolverine defense clamped down and made the plays they needed with Manny Latimore and Billy Penta leading the defense with eight tackles each. Helping out with three takeaways, Manny Latimore and Chris McDade recovered fumbles while Billy Penta had an interception. Other standout plays on defense were made by Nathan Wildman and Joey DiCarlo with seven tackles each, and Mike Thomson with a quarterback sack.

Offensively, it took both a big running and passing game to get the job done. Sean Conroy completed 7 of 13 passes for 99 yards and a touchdown. Adam Sica caught three passes. Andrew Ong, Manny Latimore and Billy Penta rushed for nearly 150 yards combined with great blocking from Patrick Myers, Camden Crowell, James Ruffing and David Hansen.

Junior Varsity blanks Tewksbury

The Wolverine JV squad played a smothering defense, allowing just 29 yards of total offense from the line of scrimmage for Tewksbury. Dan Avila lead the impressive defensive play with 10 tackles. The defensive line was strong and lineman Kyle Swirbliss really stood out as the entire defensive line controlled the game. Peter Cyr and Mark Hanlon kept the Red Raiders in check with fast and hard-hitting tackles all over the field.

On offense, Luke Testa completed both passes he attempted. The ground game came from Matt Madden ,who carried the ball 14 times for 50 yards.

Brett Stuart and Nick Mazzola combined for another 60 yards for the Wolverines, while the offensive line provided protection and great blocking. The offensive line standouts were Conner Holland, Kyle Guilmain and Garrett Foskett.
