Derry Demons

Mitey Mite 1 plays to a tie

Mitey Mite 1 visited Plymouth on Sunday 9/14/08 where the Demons and Huskies played to a 0-0 tie. The Demons' Ryan Sigman had a terrific game totaling over 80 yards rushing and deflecting a pass that was eventually intercepted by Jackson Sullivan. Nathan Barnhart had several quarterback keepers for long yardage. Defensively, Ryan Kittery and Devin Sullivan came up with big plays for Derry.

Mitey Mite 2 falls, 17-6

Mitey Mite 2 fell 17-6 to the Knights in Keene on Sunday. The Demons defense was stingy all day allowing Keene only one trip into the end zone until the final minutes of play. Nico Buccieri, Ryan Kirby and Derek St. Pierre anchored the Demons D with several big stops. Derry's touchdown came on a great 45 yard touchdown catch by Mike Faragi from quarterback Kirby.

Junior PeeWee 1 clipped in double overtime game

Junior PeeWee 1 played in one of the most exciting games of the day against Londonderry. In the end, despite a fantastic defensive effort from the Demons, the Wildcats took the game 6-0 in double overtime. The entire Derry defense put forth a solid effort most notably Riley Cahill, Colin Harris and Joey Lydick. Offensively, Harris, Cahill and Matt Mulligan had big games.

Junior PeeWee 2 blanks Keene, 32-0

Junior PeeWee 2 defeated the Knights in Keene 32-0 on a rainy, wet field. Tommy Rommick and Bret Dattilo each had two rushing TD's fo the Demons. Quarterback Cam Richard found the endzone on a 32 yard keeper. Rommick and Richard also connected on several pass plays. On special teams, Tyler Gendron blocked a punt and Mason Barchard recovered an onside kick.

PeeWees blast Keene, 27-0

The PeeWees shutout the Keene Knights on the road 27-0. Dan Lannan had a rushing touchdown and another TD on an interception return. Brandon Patti also notched a rushing TD while Jake Burton scored on a screen play. Burton also had key stops on defense for Derry.

Jr. Midgets stymied, 20-6

The Jr. Midgets fell to Keene 20-6. Josh Vatcher scored for the Demons in the second quarter to send the game to the half with Keene up 7-6. Vatcher then ran to the endzone to apparently give Derry the lead in the third, only to have 42-yard scamper negated by an illegal block penalty. The Knights offense then put the game away with two late touchdowns.

Derry Wolverines

Varsity slams Goffstown, 44-16

The varsity team played a hard fought battle with Goffstown, improving to 2-0 with a 44-16 win. After exchanging touchdowns in the first quarter the Wolverine's offensive line took charge and opened up holes for Billy Penta who carried the ball 16 times for 100 yards and Manny Latimore who carried the ball 11 times for 115 yards. Sean Conroy showed a lot of control for the second week by leading the team in running and passing plays that marched the ball downfield while controlling the tempo of the game. It was truly teamwork by every player that brought success to the team.

The swarming Wolverine's defense stopped the Goffstown running game cold and as Goffstown transitioned to their passing game Wolverines' defensive players Mike Thomson and Vill Sengvanhpheng stepped-in and put the pressure on their quarterback. With Joey DiCarlo's 11 tackles, Billy Penta's 12 tackles and Jake Bernaiche with a big fumble recovery, the Wolverines really controlled the game. For the second week in a row the Wolverines defense scored again as Manny Latimore picked-off a Goffstown pass attempt and then ran it all the way back for a Wolverine's touchdown in the last seconds prior to halftime.

Jayvees pitch shutout, 20-0

The Junior Varsity was up next and clipped Goffstown 20-0. The Jayvees (2-0) took off right where the Varsity team left off with tough plays on defense by Steve Nolan who recovered a fumble and really big tackles by Chris McDade,

Trey Wilson and Anthony Saitta. This week we had another strong showing by the Wolverine JV offensive line lead by Mike Martinoli and Marc Hagen. The offensive line really controlled the tempo of the game and opened-up holes for running backs Brett Stuart, Nick Mazzola, and Matt Madden.

The offense ran for over 200 total yards. Quarterback Luke Testa proved his leadership for a second week by carrying-out the running game and energizing the passing game.

Luke threw for at least one touchdown pass again this week making two weeks in a row.

For the second week in a row the Wolverines organization battled the elements in addition to the opponent! The temperatures on the field hit the upper 80's while remnants of this week's hurricane, Ike, brought in an oppressive humidity.

The humidity was so strong that you could feel the wetness, see the "fog", and it really tested the fitness of the teams.

The Derry Wolverines JV Defense was extremely strong and their effort and preparation during practice really paid off in the game.

They had their first shutout of the season by denying Goffstown from reaching the endzone.
