Astro wrestlers ready for post-season

---- — DERRY — The Astro wrestlers hosted the Londonderry Lancers on Senior Night. Recognized seniors were David Parrott, Bryan Sullivan, Ben Trickett, Andrew Richardson, Nick Messina, and senior captains Kevin Ell, Hunter Morris and Brett Wilson.

Recording victories on the night, in a 40-25 defeat, were Eric Daigle and Danny Villa, by forfeit; Dylan Barreiro, by 4-0 decision; Kevin Ell, by 15-2 major decision; and Ben Trickett, by pin.

Earlier in the week, the Astros traveled to Salem to take on the Blue Devils.

They left two hours later with a decisive, 52-27 victory in hand, raising their dual meet record to 10-5. Recording victories for the Astros were Hunter Morris and Derek Wilson, by forfeit; Joey Lydick, by 9-1 decision; and Brett Wilson, David Parrott, Dylan Barreiro, Kevin Ell, Ben Trickett and Shayne McCann, all by pin.

On Saturday morning, with a shortened lineup due to JV states, the Astros faced non-divisional foes Bedford and Spaulding. The Astros beat a thin Spaulding team, 30-0, and then fell to a strong Bedford squad, 46-23.

Recording non-forfeit victories against Spaulding were Kevin Ell and Deene Hill, both by pin. Recording victories against Bedford were Joey Lydick, by 3-1 decision; Kevin Ell and Brett Wilson, by major decisions; and Dylan Barreiro, by pin. This meet culminates the regular season, with the Astros finishing with an 11-7 record on the year. The varsity now looks forward to Divisional, All-State and New England Championship tournaments.

The JV Astros took the state title.
