DERRY — There was plenty of snow for the benefit snowshoe races Saturday at J&F Farm.
The local Future Farmers of America chapter hosted 2.5K and 5K races as part of Derry’s annual Frost Festival. For once, there was plenty of snow for the event.
More than two dozen people strapped on their snowshoes and took off, to the bemusement of some nearby cows.
The event benefited the FFA, a national organization founded in 1928. There is a chapter at Pinkerton Academy.
Organizers were prepared to switch gears if the weather didn’t cooperate. As they did last year, FFA members were ready to change the event to a cross-country run.
But the weather did cooperate and there was plenty of fresh snow for racers to plow through.
Derry’s Gil Rueck won the 5K in 31.09.
