Ainscow named to cross-country team
POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. — Douglas Ainscow of Derry, a senior at Marist College, has been named a member of the college.’s cross country team for the 2013-2014 season.
Ainscow is a graduate of Pinkerton Academy.
Marist is an independent comprehensive liberal arts college with an enrollment of 4,700 full-time undergraduate students. Founded in 1929, the College offers 44 major fields of undergraduate study and 12 graduate degree programs.
Fawcett wins sports scholarship
Chester native Rory Fawcett was recently awarded a scholarship for her academic achievement at the 2014 Eastern Athletic Trainers’ Association Annual Conference and Clinical Symposium in Mashhantucket, Conn.
Fawcett, a senior athletic training major at Ithaca College, received the $2,500 Hartmann-Conco Sports Medicine EATA Scholarship Award. Fawcett also represented Ithaca College in the EATA Quiz Bowl, an annual competition where athletic training students who recently passed their Board of Certification exam can show off their knowledge.
Police, firefighters hit the ice March 1
MANCHESTER — The seventh annual CHaD Battle of the Badges Hockey Championship features local heroes, police officers and firefighters, in a battle of good vs. good for the kids at the Children’s Hospital at Dartmouth-Hitchcock.
The police vs. fire rivalry will return to the ice at 5 p.m. on Saturday, March 1, at the Verizon Wireless Arena.
Tickets are $10, free for kids 10 and under.! All tickets are general admission. Come with your family or your buddies.

Think summer, think soccer
DERRY — Kerry Boles, director of Varsity Soccer Academy, recently announced the dates for summer soccer camps.
The Youth Week (ages 7 to 13) will be held July 14-18 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The High School Camp (grades 9-12) will be held July 21-25 from 9 a. to noon. Both camps will take place at Gilbert H. Hood Middle School.
