DERRY — They were getting their kicks last Friday night as martial arts students at Tim Barchard’s Professional Martial Arts Academy participated in a “Kick for the Cure” kick-a-thon.
The annual charity event was held to support the Susan B. Komen Foundation and to aid breast cancer research.
This year’s kick-a-thon brought out about 30 participants of all ages and levels, all prepared to do some martial arts moves to bring in money for the cause.
Students brought in pledge sheets with monetary amounts listed as to what they would earn for each kick completed.
Maeve Campbell of Londonderry earned $105 for her martial arts moves in a one-minute time frame.
As the final amounts are still being tallied, Academy officials said they may raise anywhere from $2,000 to support cancer research.
