They played in the semifinals to a tie in regular play, as well as 7-vs.-7 competition, then succumbed to penalty strokes, 2-1, to lose to the eventual champion team.

All-tourney player was defender Jess McCully, whose vision of the field and knowledge of the game made her key throughout the day as well as the whole season.

Freshman forward Elizabeth Tverter received the game ball for the day for consistency and excellent stick work and defense, as well as being one of the best players all season.

Goalie Abby Doherty made key saves during the day. Defenders Kelsey Weston, Erin Johnston, Stephanie Modrak and Morgan Hazelton played superb defense throughout the five games contributing to no goals allowed.

Midfielders Maria Aiello, newcomer Amanda Stostak, Cecilia Scuito, Courtney Desroches and Emily Needham

played smart field hockey, keeping the ball on attack, as did Cassie Woodes and Olivia Tracy.

Forward sensations Gabby Gerard, Kailee Robinson, Haley Harrington, Tess Malcolm, Kristen Crowell, Val Vaitones, Becca Bouchard, Ally Rugg, Erin Glynn (defender) and go-getter Morgan Donahue were key in passing and finishing for the day.



Astros hold off Brockton

On Oct. 12, the varsity Astros traveled to Brockton to play their out-of-division game against the Boxers.

The Astros jumped out to an early lead, scoring first. It would be a lead the Astros would hold on to for the entire game. They went up 20-14 at the half and that would hold for the final score.

Manny Latimore ran hard for the Astros, picking up key first downs and helping the Astros to the win.

Matt Madden also played well defensively, making big plays that keyed the Astros defense to creating 5 turnovers in the game.




Astros honor former coach

The Lady Astros hosted Bedford Oct. 11 on a night used to remember Coach Ralph Van Nostrand.
