Sean Caron delivered a two-run single as Londonderry closed with a rush, plating six in the seventh inning to best Pinkerton, 9-1. Caron had three hits and three runs driven in for the Lancers (7-3), helping winning pitcher Chris Crutcher, who tossed six innings of five-hit ball. Joe Guidi had three of the Astros' six hits and drove in their lone run.

The camp is open to all athletes eighth grade and up interested in improving strength, speed, agility, quickness and power. Mary Theos' name might not be one that's heard very often around the local sports scene, but it soon will be.
Theos, who has been running the Londonderry Special Olympics basketball program for the last 17 years, will receive the Robert W. Lincoln Award on May 15 at the Londonderry High spring pep rally. The award is given annually to the individual who demonstrates over a significant amount of time the characteristics of leadership, volunteerism, and devotion to the town of Londonderry and especially its youth.

Tough luck Londonderry edged in second straight pitcher's duel

LONDONDERRY — In a game this close, any mistake was going to be costly.
Unfortunately for Londonderry, that mistake was a passed ball.
A 2-1 offering in the fourth inning from outstanding sophomore pitcher Jake Finnegan skipped by catcher Geoff Fisher, allowing Nashua South's Bill Ferriter to advance from second to third, then score on a sacrifice fly from Dan Feehan. It was the only run of the tightly-contested ballgame, and Londonderry lost to South 1-0. It was Finnegan's first loss of the year.

Brian Estes and Nick Currier each scored two goals but that wasn't enough for Pinkerton to avoid its first loss of the season. Longmeadow (Mass.) scored four times in the third period to hand the Astros a 13-7 loss. Jeff Guilherme had three assists in the loss.

Michael Karthas of Londonderry, along with his two sons Timothy and Mike, ran the Boston Marathon on Monday, April 21, and the younger Karthases ended up with the top two local times.
Mike, 22, was the top runner, finishing in 2:53:36, while brother Timothy, 19, finished in 3:02:21. The elder Karthas, 53, closed out the race in 4:04:33.

Giant killers Londonderry topples Salem for first time in more than a decade

SALEM — Even though it was a milestone for him, Londonderry coach Wayne MacDougall tried to downplay the April 25 4-2 victory over two-time defending Class L champion Salem.
Although it was his first win over Salem in 12 years as head coach, MacDougall stressed that "it's only April," and that it would be much more important later in the season.

DERRY — Though the comeback bid ultimately fell short, Pinkerton coach Ron Manseau had to be pleased with his young team's effort.
Pinkerton was in a three-run hole in the fifth inning and cut Manchester Central's lead to one but ultimately succumbed to the Little Green's attack, giving up another run in the seventh and losing 7-5.

Londonderry tabs Sobolov as next athletic director

After a lengthy search, Londonderry High School has named its next athletic director.
Howard Sobolov, the current athletic director at Goffstown High School, will take over from retiring Londonderry Athletic Director Mike Kobilarcsik when his contract begins July 1.

Derry's Ragoza chooses Merrimack

Former Pinkerton star Jeff Ragoza, who attended Taft School in Watertown, Conn., for a postgrad year, has elected to play football at Merrimack College.
The 5-foot-11, 235-pound middle linebacker and fullback sat out the entire season at Taft after a preseason injury.
