Derry Eagles U-11 drop a pair of soccer matches

DERRY — The Derry Eagles U-11 Boys dropped a pair of tough soccer matches over the weekend versus Seacoast Maine and Londonderry United.

On Saturday, Oct. 4, Seacoast Maine strangled momentum away from the Eagles through their tight defense, and they took the lead early. The offense of Julian Noj, Matt Rizzo, John Depersio, Jonathan Forbes and Devon Nordelus was unable to get on track despite numerous attempts.

On defense, strong play by Trevor Morrison supported by Jason Flood deflected many Seacoast advances.

Sunday, Derry squared off against a strong Londonderry United squad. Londonderry struck first, and Derry was unable to match Londonderry's intensity all day.

A strong effort on the defensive end was put forth by Andrew Branchina, John Durant, Matt O'Hara, Marshall Halpin and newcomer Joe Williams. In goal, Bernard Suwirjo had 11 impressive saves on the day.

"We continue to struggle to match the intensity of our opponents from the first whistle. Our team is getting stronger every game. We continue to practice hard and strive to reach our potential," said Coach Dave Halpin.

Next, the Eagles travel to York, Maine, to participate in the Columbus Day Harvest Tournament against teams from Maine and New Hampshire.
