The 14 U Northeast Hurricanes softball team will be holding open tryouts for the 2008-2009 session on Sunday, Aug. 17, Monday, Aug. 18, and Wednesday, Aug. 20, at Lancaster School in Salem, N.H. The 14 U Hurricanes are coming off a successsful 12 U season where the team was the 2008 ASA state champions and have qualified for both the PONY and ASA National Championships. If girls are interested in playing at an elite level of competitive softball this is the team for them. NHTI is seeking an assistant men's soccer coach for a position that begins immediately upon hire. The 18th annual Dana Ball "Love" Tennis Tournament will be run from July 16 to 20 and July 23 to 27. Entry deadlines for men's singles was July 9, and all other event deadlines were July 16. The Derry Soccer Club is looking for players interested in joining the Derry Eagles Girls U13 team. Players born between Aug. 1, 1995, and July 31, 1996, are eligible. The Derry Soccer Club provides professional training in the fall and spring through the British Challenger Organization. The team will compete in the Granite State Youth Soccer League, playing two tournaments in the fall and two in the spring. Greater Nutfield Community Tennis will host summer tennis camp and Quick Start Tennis programs with sessions starting July 28, Aug. 5 and Aug. 11, with a make-up session Aug. 18 at the Alexander-Carr Tennis Courts on Birch Street in Derry. Pinkerton tennis coach John Pelkey is the head professional, and the program has a one-to-five instructor to student ratio. Players ages 5 to 18 are eligible. Players ages 5 to 6 cost $40 per session, older players cost $50 per session. Additional family members may enroll at a 50 percent discount. There will be free T-shirts and prizes, as well as free refreshments. Racket rental is $5 per session. To register, call Derry Rec at 432-6136. Londonderry United will hold registrations, tryouts and summer camps for boys and girls aged U8 to U14 throughout the summer. Londonderry residency is not required to participate.
