Londonderry tennis coach Milka steps down

After guiding her team to the only undefeated season in Londonderry High history, Lancers girls tennis coach Patti Milka has resigned from the position.

Milka, who has coached the team since 2004, will move to Wisconsin with her family.

"We're moving to Wisconsin for employment for my husband," she said. "I'm really disappointed that I won't be back, but I guess you can't plan these things."

The timing was right for Milka, though, who saw her 14-0 team lose 10 seniors, many of whom she had coached for their entire high school careers.

"It's going to be a good building year for whoever comes in," she said. "The girls that are there are strong enough to hold their own with the competition next year. I'm hoping they can keep the program on the same path it's been on the last two years. It's gaining a lot of popularity and it's a varsity team. The kids know they need to know how to play the game. I'm hoping it keeps up that momentum."

Milka helped the Lancers to the state final this year, where they lost a nail-biter to Concord on the last match.
