Sports Roundup: Estes, Currier shine in first Astros loss

Boys Lacrosse

Brian Estes and Nick Currier each scored two goals but that wasn't enough for Pinkerton to avoid its first loss of the season. Longmeadow (Mass.) scored four times in the third period to hand the Astros a 13-7 loss. Jeff Guilherme had three assists in the loss.

Anthony Valentine scored four goals and recorded three assists as Pinkerton rolled past Souhegan 22-7. Teagan Norris also had four goals, Nolin Murphy scored three times, Bobby Dattilo had two goals and five assists and Pete Mazzola had a goal and three assists for the Astros.

Baseball

Astros pull out seventh-inning win over Exeter

Pat Curry highlighted a three-run seventh inning by scoring the eventual winning run on an error, lifting Pinkerton to a come-from-behind 5-3 victory over Exeter. After falling behind 3-2 after six, Joe Guidi and Ryan Scott authored RBI singles in the final frame. Jason Carace had three hits as did winning pitcher Doug Schultz for the Astros (4-4).

Londonderry had runners on base in every inning except one, but only pushed across a single run in a 3-1 loss to red-hot Salem. Kyle Neverman drove in the Lancers' only run with an RBI double.

Adam Veino (complete game three-hitter with nine strikeouts) was the tough-luck loser for Londonderry (7-2).

Softball

Astros fall despite Doherty's big day

Pinkerton had no answer for hot-hitting Exeter and dropped an 8-3 decision. Shannon Doherty (2 for 3) had a solo home run for the Astros (3-5) and Allie Priest was 3 for 3 with an RBI.

Pinkerton lost a 1-0 heartbreaker to Manchester Central when the winning run scored from third on a throw to first base following a strikeout. Other than that, the Astros played their best defensive game of the year according to coach Terry Bailey, and junior pitcher Cara Chooljian was superb, throwing a three-hitter with seven strikeouts and no walks. Kailey Brooks had a double for Pinkerton.

Boys Tennis

Burbine, Palmieri power Lancers

Londonderry rolled past Nashua North, 8-1. Alex Burbine and Tyler Palmieri won big.

Alex Burbine won an 8-0 decision at No. 1 singles, but Salem topped Londonderry, 6-3.

Pinkerton beat Manchester Central 6-3. Sean Kelly, Sam Eaton and Dan Kish won their matches.

Lancers keep rolling

Kelli Murphy earned an 8-0 win at No. 1 singles and the team of Murphy and Ali McKinney had little trouble at No. 1 doubles as Londonderry topped Salem, 8-1.

Bedford beat Pelham 5-4. Meghan Szmyt and Taylor LaPointe won their matches.

Londonderry swept Nashua North, 9-0. Jen Kutt, Katie Bever and Cassie Kelly won with ease.

Boyle scores four in Londonderry win

In a defensive dogfight, Londonderry downed Salem, 9-6, behind Dana Boyle's four-goal, two-assist day.

Kacie Connal scored four times while Jackie Benson and Mary Santos each added three goals during Pinkerton's 17-4 win over Nashua South. Heather Carr had a goal and four assists to help the Astros improve to 7-2.

Kayla Green scored six times and Dana Boyle found the back of the net on four more as Londonderry topped Concord, 13-8. Marcie Marino scored three times for the Lancers (6-2).

Londonderry got goals from seven different scorers in a 20-5 blowout of Nashua South. Kayla Green led the way with five goals and a pair of assists. Dana Boyle netted three goals and added two assists.
