Derry loves its holiday parade.
The holiday season begins officially in downtown Derry with the annual holiday parade, set to step off at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 30.
The 27th annual event is hosted by the Greater Derry Londonderry Chamber of Commerce. It starts on West Broadway, winds through the downtown, up Crystal Avenue and ends at Hood Commons.
This year’s holiday parade theme is “Lighting Up the Holidays.” Local schools, nonprofit organizations and other groups will build floats to capture this year’s theme and will vie for top awards for creativity for best float using that theme.
More than 80 floats and marching units will take to the streets of Derry, including Pinkerton Academy and Londonderry High School marching bands, middle school musical groups and other parade entries.
Local Rotarians will walk the parade route to collect nonperishable food items to support local food pantries.
