Hop on board the Polar Express

Taylor library hosts annual holiday journey

It’s a journey of a lifetime for the youngest of trailblazers.

For children hoping to take that special trip this holiday season there’s nothing like a trip aboard the Polar Express.

Taylor Library in East Derry once again hosts its popular series of imaginary holiday trips and story time, based on the story by Chris Van Allsburg telling the tale of a young boy taking a snowy journey to meet Santa Claus.

The library has hosted the Polar Express events for 12 years, according to library director Linda Merrill.

She said every year draws a crowd.

This year’s schedule is set for three events — Dec. 10, 11 and 12 — beginning at 6:30 p.m.

The library will be transformed into a winter wonderland, complete with holiday treats, cocoa and a train ride to the North Pole.

Children are invited to arrive in their pajamas and will receive a special bell as part of their journey north. They will hear stories and also have a chance to visit with Santa once they arrive at their destination.

Registration is already underway for the Polar Express and slots fill quickly, Merrill said. Call Taylor Library at 432-7186 for information about the Polar Express story hours or other holiday events.
