DERRY — Derry loves a parade.
The 26th annual Greater Derry Londonderry Chamber of Commerce holiday parade steps off in downtown Derry on Nov. 24 at 1 p.m.
The parade draws thousands to the downtown area and is the official community kick-off to the holiday season.
This year’s parade theme is “Songs and Sounds of the Holiday Season.”
Schools, churches and other organizations will fill the streets of Derry with colorful floats featuring musical tributes in keeping with this year’s theme.
The parade begins on West Broadway and heads to Crystal Avenue, then ends at Hood Commons.
More than 80 floats and marching units are expected to participate this year, including bands from Pinkerton Academy and Londonderry High School, and several other bands representing Derry schools.
The business community also steps up to support the parade. Winning floats will earn awards for their originality and theme details.
Children are also invited to bring along their letters for Santa Claus that will be delivered to the North Pole.
