Should a town spend money to buy a gift for a longtime official who retires or steps down, such as a town councilor?
“Absolutely not. (Like in Derry) keep the iPad for the next ‘Joe’ coming in.”
“I don’t have a problem with it if it’s a town tradition to give a retirement gift.”
“At what point do you draw the line? But it has to be out in the open so everybody knows what it is.”
“Not if it’s town property. (In Derry), the town administrator shouldn’t have been involved in the first place and the town council blew it all out of proportion.”
“What’s the big deal? But for gifts in general, no.”
