Elizabeth Naomi "Bette" Houley, 100
West Haven, CT — Elizabeth N. “Bette” Houley, of West Haven,CT, for 53 years the beloved wife of the late Joseph E. Houley, died peacefully, July 13, 2012, after a long life numbering 100+ years. Elizabeth was born in New Haven, December 26, 1911, a daughter of the late Webster W. and Inez Brockway Leland. She is the loving mother of Joseph P. Houley and his wife Linda, of Natick, MA, Elizabeth Colberg and her husband Donald, of Bethany, CT, and Kathleen Kemp and her husband Christopher, of Londonderry, NH; cherished grandmother of Richard (Tracy) Colberg, Criston (Lisa) Colberg, Mary-Elizabeth Kemp (Russell) Hauver, Craig (Rebecca) Kemp, Andrew Houley, and Virginia Houley; great grandmother of 4 dear great grandchildren, Samantha Colberg, Ryan Colberg, Ashley Colberg, and Mathew Charles Colberg. She also leaves two sisters, Marjorie Miller and Frances DeCarlo, both of West Haven. She was predeceased by her brother, Webster Leland. Bette was a communicant of Saint Lawrence Church, West Haven and a member of the Saint Therese’s Guild there. She performed the duties of Sacristan in the parish for many years, beginning in the late 50s. She was also recording secretary for the Notre Dame Mother’s Club from 1964 to 1966. Later in life, into her 80s, she enjoyed bowling with her sisters in a weekly league. She was truly a peacemaker at heart.Continued ...

Mrs. Grandmaison was a resident of Derry since 1993, formerly living in Nashua, NH, Hampton, NH and Florida. Dorothea was a graduate of Pinkerton Academy, Derry, Class of 1937. She and her husband Roger ran a rooming house at Hampton Beach called “The Bartlett”. Ms. Wood graduated from Accounting School, then worked for many years with Selective Service and as a bookkeeper for True Value Hardware in FL retiring at the age of 89. She enjoyed playing piano, doing crossword and jigsaw puzzles, and gardening. Gerri worked for Klev Bros. Shoe Co. for 25 years as well as C & B Electronics, both of Derry, NH. She and her husband George owned and operated Total Comfort Plumbing and Heating in Chester. Gerri served as Past Secretary and Treasurer for the AFLCIO. She enjoyed teaching crafts at the schools, and raising money for charity through the sale of her crafts. He proudly served his country as a Combat Engineer with the US Army and retired after 25 years as a Master Sergeant. He grew up in Watertown, MA, graduating from Watertown High School and later from Boston College, class of ’57. He served with the 3rd Infantry Division, U. S. Army during the Korean Conflict from 1952-1954. Mr. Davis had been employed for many years as an Automobile Executive with Volkswagon of America. He moved to Derry, NH in 1969 and had recently been a resident of Manchester, NH. He died peacefully, surrounded by his family on Friday, May 18, 2012 at the Courville Nursing Center at the age of 82.Continued ...

Gene Tunney Duston , 84, husband of June C. (Green) Duston of Newcastle,Maine, died peacefully May 6, 2012 surrounded by his loving family at Cove's Edge in Damariscotta. He was born September 23, 1927 in Hampstead, NH, son of Levi E. and Myrtis C. (French) Duston. Gene graduated from Hampstead High School in 1945 and was immediately drafted into the U.S. Army. He was a member of the Hampstead Fire Department for 55 years and served on the Executive Committee, Board of Engineers and as Chief from 1957-1960. Gene served as Trustee for ten years for the Hampstead Congregational Church and was a member of the Steeple Committee. He loved working with youth in Hampstead and worked both with the Cub Scouts and Little League. Gene was also active in the community as a member of the School Building Committee for five years and was very proud of his service as Chairman of the Site Committee for the new middle school which resulted in the purchase of the 40 acres where the Hampstead Middle School was constructed. He served as Selectman from 1981-1983. He enjoyed skiing, gardening, watching the Red Sox, but most of all, he enjoyed his years with family and friends on the Bearcamp River in West Ossipee, New Hampshire.Continued ...
