Derry, N.H. — Mr. Oscar Eric Birchander, age 93 years, of Derry, N.H. formerly of Saugus died Friday Sept. 28, at the VA Medical Center in Manchester, N.H., after a brief illness. He was the husband of Doris K. (Gates) Birchander with whom he shared 70 years of marriage.
Born April 13, 1919 in Kristinaham, Sweden, he was the son of the late Oscar A. and Esther (Johansson) Birchander. He moved to the Lynn, Saugus area in 1924, and resided in Saugus until moving to Derry, N.H. in 2001. He served in the US Army in World War II. He was employed as a machinist at General Electric Riverworks Plant for over 40 years.
Eric, as he was known to friends, was a member of Birka Lodge in Hamilton. He loved to fish, garden, play cards, sing and dance.
In addition to his wife he is survived by two daughters; Ellen L. Birchander and her husband Chester Blasak of Derry, N.H., Sheila A. B. and her husband Robert Schaefer of Derry, N.H., and four grandchildren, Gabrielle E. Schaefer, Benjamin G. Schaefer, Emma L. Blasczak, Vanna D. Blasczak, all of Derry. He was also father of the late Oscar E. Birchander Jr., and brother of the late Vera L. Bjorkander.
ARRANGEMENTS: A memorial service will be held at the Church of the Transfiguration, 1 Hood Rd. Derry, N.H. on Friday October 5 at 3:30 p.m., to which relatives and friends are invited to attend. Reception will follow at the church. Guest book at parkermemorialfuneralhome.com
