Alice Elizabeth (Russell) (Turner) McGrath

Danvers — Mrs. Alice Elizabeth McGrath, 80, of Londonderry, N.H, formerly of Danvers, beloved wife of the late Brian McGrath, died Saturday afternoon at the Elliot Hospital in Manchester, N.H., following a brief illness surrounded by her family.

Born in Danvers, she was the daughter of the late Vernon Clarence and Margaret (Knowles) Russell. She was raised and educated in Danvers. She was a graduate of the former Holten High School and attended North Shore Community College in Beverly.

Mrs. McGrath began her professional career with CVS Hytron of Danvers. She matriculated to the former Woolworth's Company in Danvers and more recently she had been employed with the Town of Danvers at the Danvers Electric Light and as a Teacher's Aid at Holten-Richmond Middle School and at Danvers High School.

A loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, Alice was a lifelong resident of the Town of Danvers. She was a longtime dedicated member of the Holy Trinity United Methodist Church in Danvers. She volunteered with the Women's Circle at Holy Trinity. She was a member of the Red Hatters and was a Den Mother of the Danvers Boy Scout Troop. She was an avid reader of newspapers, magazines and books. Above all else she was dedicated to her family. She will be deeply missed.

Alice is survived by her sons, Edgar A. Turner Jr. and his fiancé, Lisa Jane DeLari,a of Chelmsford, David P. Turner and his wife, Pauline D., of Londonderry, N.H., and Gregory A. Turner of Beverly; her eight grandchildren, Crystal Paquette-Turner, Michael Turner and Hannah Anderson, Daniel J. Turner, Aaron D. Turner, Timothy J. Turner, Jennifer L. Turner and Kristin R. Turner; and her step-grandson, Jonathan DeLaria; her three great-grandchildren; her siblings, Priscilla Nickerson of Danvers, Edna Choquette of Peabody, Margaret Mscisz of Danvers and Kathy Cross of Beverly; and several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. She was the former wife of Edgar A. Turner Sr. of Ipswich. She was also the sister of the late Clarence, John, Robert and Kenny Russell and Shirley Robins.

ARRANGEMENTS: Her funeral service was held in the Holy Trinity United Methodist Church, Sylvan St., Danvers, Wednesday, May 29, at noon. Relatives and friends were invited. Burial was in Walnut Grove Cemetery, Danvers. Visiting hours in the Peterson-O'Donnell Funeral Home, 167 Maple St., Route 62, Danvers, were held Tuesday, May 28, from 4 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made in Alice's memory to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701 or to the Scleroderma Foundation, 300 Rosewood Drive, Suite 105, Danvers, MA 01923.
