Londonderry, NH — George “Bud” Plummer Hicks, 86, of Londonderry, NH, died Thursday November 8, 2012, in Parkland Medical Center in Derry, NH. He was born in Manchester, NH on February 7, 1926, a son of Daniel and Hazel (Plummer) Hicks. He was raised and educated in Londonderry and was a 1945 graduate of Pinkerton Academy and a lifelong resident of Londonderry.
Mr. Hicks served his country in WWII, the Korean and Vietnam wars as a Master Sergeant in the US Air Force, and retired from the NH Air National Guard in 1986 with 42 years of service. George was employed by the Merrimack Farmers Exchange as a retail manager, and retired after 25 years. In his retirement, he worked alongside his brothers at Sunnycrest Farms. He was a longtime member of the Londonderry community, having served as Selectman, Moderator of the School Board, Planning Board member, and with the volunteer Fire Department. He was also a member of American Legion Post #27 of Londonderry, the Londonderry Lions Club, the Londonderry Grange and Hoodkroft Seniors Golf.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Irene Hicks of Londonderry; two daughters, Judith A. Shaver and her husband Robert of Londonderry and Penny L. Gould and her husband Armand of Londonderry; five grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, one brother, Daniel, Jr. and his wife Gretchen Hicks, three sister-in-laws, Arlene Hicks, Yvette Hicks and Jeanne Hicks. He was predeceased by his three brothers, Paul, Robert and David Hicks, and two sisters, Shirley Belger and Elizabeth Hicks.
ARRANGEMENTS: After cremation, a graveside service with military honors was held on Tuesday, November 13, 2012 at 11:00am in Glenwood Cemetery, Mammoth Rd., Londonderry, NH. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one's choice. The Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium of Londonderry are assisting the family.
