Holland, IA — Andrew Edwin McDivitt Jr. was called home on January 22, 2014. He passed away at his home in Holland, Iowa that he shared with the love of his life, Marjorie Chase McDivitt, his wife of 63 years. They married on May 27, 1950. As we celebrate Ed's life we will often think of the great achievements he made since his birth on September 8, 1928, in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania, where he was born to his parents, Andrew Edwin McDivitt Sr. and Gertrude Curry McDivitt. He was raised with his younger brother, Donald Curry McDivitt, who left us in 2008.
Ed grew up in many places in PA on to New Jersey in 1943 and to Derry Village in New Hampshire in 1946. There he met Marjorie Chase. He graduated from East Orange High School in NJ in 1945. Ed then continued his education at Newark College of Engineering and Bloomfield Presbyterian College with a Bachelor of Arts Degree on September 13, 1972.
He and Marjorie enjoyed life early on with their first stage of family with children, Pam (Terry) and Andy (Cheri). After raising their first family they were blessed with the second stage of parenthood with Clayton (Tina), Darcey and Duncan (Mandy).
Children had always been a huge part of Ed's life. Ed and Marjorie rejoiced in seeing their grandchildren come into the world, Jesse, Jeremy (Kim), Jim (Jenny), Joe (Jody), Josh (Debbie), Jolene (Mike), Alex, Kim, Brooke and Chase. The chain continued with great-grandchildren, Brian, Brandon, Riley, Clayton, Sara, Kaylie, Brett, Crystal and Kaycee. They had kids in the house for 63 of their married years.
Ed was adventurous and liked the challenge of jobs in interesting places from RCA, Newark Public Service Electric and Gas Company in NJ, on to American Electric Power Corporation in New York City. Then to Beemerville, NJ to serve as student pastor in the Presbyterian Church, next to Derry, NH, to manage a Phillips 66 Service Station in Hampton, NH, on to Cedar Falls, Iowa for Cedar Falls Utilities to serve as Assistant Engineer. Then as Director and Assistant Director in several mid-west public utilities on to be Director of The Water and Power Authority for the island of St. Croix in the U.S. Virgin Islands.
