Melbourne, FL — Retired CMSgt. Robert C. "Bob" Rider, of Melbourne, FL, died on Jan. 30, 2014, at William Childs Hospice House in Palm Bay, FL.
He was born May 8, 1929, to John and Annie Rider in Derry, NH. He was a 1947 Pinkerton Academy Graduate. He spent 22 years in the United States Air Force during WWII, Vietnam and Korea. He served as Chief Air Mechanic with the 509th Field Maintenance Squadron (SAC) in Africa, France, England and Guam.
In 1974 he retired to Melbourne, FL. He and his wife, Pat, loved playing golf, traveling and being with their grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers.
He is survived by Patricia, his wife of 46 years; his daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Clarence Fletcher of Hiwasse, AR; son, Douglas Rider of North Hollywood, CA; son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Anita Rider of Branson, MO; son and daughter-in-law, Alan and Stephanie Rider of Cocoa, FL; daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Eric Dahlgren of Melbourne, FL; eight grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and his sister, Evelyn (Rider) McCarthy of Melbourne, FL.
A memorial service with full military honors was held Feb. 8, at the Equ Gallie First Baptist Church in Melbourne, with Tim Harden officiating.
