Lucile Y. (Mecure) Manning, 89, of Manchester, died on April 7, 2012 at St. Teresa’s Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, Manchester, after a long period of declining health. She moved from her native Derry in 2001 to reside at St. Teresa’s.
Born in Derry on April 27, 1922, she was the daughter of Edmond and Lydia (Cote) Mercure. Lucile graduated from Pinkerton Academy in 1939. She married Frederick H. Manning in 1940. She dedicated her life to her family, being a cherished wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Before entering St. Teresa’s she had enjoyed traveling, gardening and handicrafts.
Lucile was a member of St. Mark the Evangelist Church in Londonderry. During her life, Lucile was active in many civic organizations, a Girl Scout leader, a member of the Catholic Daughters of America, and a past president of the Alexander Eastman Hospital Auxiliary.
She is survived by her husband of 71 years, Frederick H. Manning, formerly of Derry, now living in Manchester and her four children, Jean M. Minichiello and her husband Dr. Philip, Janet M. Babcock and her husband Donald, Dr. James B. Manning and his wife Deborah, and Kathleen M. Vachon and her husband Robert, one sister, Rosaline Cormier and her husband Joseph Camille, 10 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her brother Walter and sister Lorette Berry.
ARRANGEMENTS: Calling hours were held from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, April 11, 2012 at the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 290 Mammoth Rd., Londonderry. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday at St. Mark the Evangelist, 1 South Rd., Londonderry.
