DERRY, N.H. — Gary L. Sturgis, 57, of Derry, died Monday, Aug. 16, 2010 at the VA Medical Center in West Roxbury.
He was born in Haverhill, on June 9, 1953, a son of Louise O. (White) Sturgis of Brentwood, and the late Charles E. Sturgis. Mr. Sturgis was raised in Danville, attending local schools before serving with the U.S. Marine Corps.
Gary worked primarily as a truck driver before illness prevented him from continuing. His home for the past several years was Derry, prior to that he lived in Hampton and East Kingston.
Gary was active in volunteer service in the communities where he lived throughout his life and dedicated several years of service to Operation Blessing in Portsmouth. Most recently, he was a faithful member of the Trinity Assembly of God Church in Derry and, in his earlier years, was a member of the Danville Baptist Church.
In addition to his mother, family members include his son, Greg Sturgis of Hopkinton; his daughter, Greta Sturgis of Hillsborough; his brother, Charles E. Sturgis, Jr. of Exeter; his granddaughter, Skylar; niece, Caryn; and nephews, Jason, Marc, and Ronald. He was predeceased by his wife, Donna (Thibeau) Sturgis in 2007; his brother, Richard T. Sturgis in 1977; and also by his father.
ARRANGEMENTS: Services will be held 11 a.m. Monday in the Danville Baptist Church, 226 Main St., Danville. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Private interment will be in the Old Meeting House Cemetery, Danville. The family suggests donations to the Trinity Assembly of God Church, 53 N. Main St., Derry, NH 03038.
