George J. Nolan, Jr., 62


Manchester, NH — George J. Nolan, Jr. - 62, of Manchester, NH, formerly of Derry, NH, Alton, NH and North Reading, MA, died June 12, 2012 at the Bedford Hills Care and Rehabilitation Center in Bedford , NH.

Born in Cambridge, MA on December 4, 1949, he was the son of the late George J., Sr. and Elinor C. (McKinnon) Nolan. He was raised in North Reading and was a graduate of North Reading High School, Class of 1967. George was a U.S. Navy Veteran of the Vietnam Conflict, from 1967 to 1971 and he served aboard the U.S.S. Warrington. He later served in the U.S. Army Reserves from 1984 to 1987 at Fort Devens.

George worked for many years as a welder and pipefitter. He worked for the Malden Mills in Lawrence, East Boston Navy Yard and for Elston Welding in North Reading.

He loved coin collecting, he was a diehard Bruins Fan, he enjoyed motorcycles, gun collecting, photography and music. He was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Parish and Knights of Columbus, No. 13026, both in Litchfield, NH.

George loved his family wholeheartedly. He was a devoted father and an amazing grandfather.

Family members include his loving wife of 28 years, Karen A. (Holbert) Nolan; his cherished daughters, Tina Marie Goodnow of Salem, NH, Lyndsey Brooke Nolan and Cassie Joan Nolan, both of Manchester, NH; his brother, Edward Nolan and wife Jeanne of Londonderry, NH; his sister, Mary Alyce Riddinger and her husband Bob of Pelham, NH; his mother-in-law, Joan Holbert of Peabody and his late father-in-law, Bernard Holbert. Seven grandchildren, Cody, Taylor, Aiden, Nikolas, Alex, Logan and Landon. Memorial donations may be made in his memory to: American Diabetes Association, 330 Congress St., 5th Flr., Boston, MA 02110.

ARRANGEMENTS: Funeral was held from the Croswell Funeral Home, 19 Bow St., North Reading on Monday, June 18, at 9:15 AM, followed by a 10:30 AM Funeral Mass at St. Theresa’s Church, North Reading. Calling hours were Sunday from 4-8 PM. Burial was in Riverside Cemetery in North Reading.
