Manchester, NH — Thomas “Tom” David McCormick Sr., 86, passed away on November 10, 2013, at Villa Crest Nursing and Retirement Home, Manchester. Born in Granby, Conn., on January 30, 1927, he was a son of the late Robert and Margaret (Mahoney) McCormick.
Tom grew up in Connecticut and spent his adult life in Connecticut, New Hampshire, and Florida. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, having served from January 1949 to October 1952. Tom graduated with highest honors from the University Of Connecticut in June of 1959, and was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. He retired in 1987, after 21 years with GE as an engineer, having worked on the Apollo program. Tom was an avid reader and he loved to plant his garden. He loved having his family around, and especially loved traveling and the holidays.
Tom is survived by Thomas Jr. of Ormond Beach, Fla., Timothy and his wife, Allison, of Nottingham, N.H., Terence and his wife, Mary, of Chester, N.H., and a daughter-in-law, Darlene McCormick of Port Orange, Fla.; seven grandchildren, Michael and Daniel McCarthy, and Laura, Spencer, Caitlin, Nathaniel, and Kirsten McCormick; one sister-in-law, Marge McCormick of Arizona; as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife of 58 years, Barbara (Brow) McCormick in 2010; his youngest son, Todd Christopher in 1992; and his siblings, Edward, Richard, Eugene, and Marion.
ARRANGEMENTS: Calling hours will be held on Saturday, November 16, from 10:00 a.m. to 1 p.m., at Peabody Funeral Home, 290 Mammoth Road, Londonderry, N.H. A funeral service will be held in the funeral home at 1 p.m. Burial will be held at a later date in Edgewater New Smyrna Cemetery in Florida.
