George A. Lyman, 73

Derry — George A. Lyman, 73, of Derry, died on Thursday, November 1, 2012 at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Boston. He was born on January 13, 1939 in North Conway, N.H.; a son of F. Albert and Vesta Mae (Shackford) Lyman.

George was a longtime resident of Derry, formerly living in Bristol, Plymouth and Keene. He served with the U.S. Army from 1957 to 1960. He attended the N.H. Vocational Institute of Manchester and was employed as draftsman at Central Screw Co. of Keene for six years. After graduating from NE Institute in 1975, George started in funeral service at Lafontaine Funeral Home in Plymouth and also worked at Emmons Funeral Home in Bristol. He retired from Peabody Funeral Homes of Derry and Londonderry where he was employed from 1977 to 2011.

He was a life member of both the N.R.A. and the North American Hunting Club. George and his wife were season ticket holders of the New Hampshire Fisher Cats. He was an avid supporter of the Pinkerton Academy football and lacrosse programs. In addition, George enjoyed college and professional sports.

He is survived by his wife Barbara M. (Moore) Murphy Lyman of Derry; one daughter, Dawn E. Kinson of Dover; three step sons, Bryon Murphy and his wife Nicole of Candia, Kevin Murphy and his wife Sabrina of Rock Falls, Ill., and Marc Murphy and his wife Jane of Elkview, W.Va.; eight grandchildren, four great grandchildren, two sisters, Janet Porter and her husband Sheldon of Delray Beach, Fla. and Norma Jane Lyman of Concord, as well as several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son Glenn A. Lyman in 2010.
