Elizabeth N. "Betty" (Stone) Toohey, 84


Brighton — Elizabeth “Betty” N. (Stone) Toohey, 84, of Brighton, passed away on May 28, 2013, at The Pope Nursing Home in Weymouth after a courageous battle with cancer. Betty was born in Boston on November 17, 1928, daughter to the late Elizabeth (MacLachlan) and Eugene Stone. Betty attended the Roslindale public schools and graduated from Roslindale High School.

Elizabeth was active in the outreach activities of the community of Sant’ Egidio. She was instrumental in securing musical instruments for several of the local senior centers in the area and was the planner of many of the multi-ethnic affairs at the Fidelis Way Senior Housing Community Center. She supported the “Sunday morning prayer and coffee hour“ for many years until her declining health.

Besides her parents, Betty was predeceased by her sister, Barbara Phillips and her husband, Gerald, of Brighton; and her son, Richard Toohey and his wife, Sharon, of Braintree. Betty is survived by her beloved son, Stephen Toohey and his wife, Lillian, of Atkinson N.H.; nephew, Raymond Phillips and his wife, Kathy; grandchildren, Melissa Toohey and her companion, William Ficher, of Florida, Stephen Toohey Jr. and his fiancee, Jessica Lewis, of Raymond, N.H., Kevin Toohey and his fiancee, Robine Fafard, of Candia, N.H., Jessica Toohey and her fiance, Kyle Kent, of Rockland, and Brian Toohey of Braintree; great-grandchildren, Joshua Toohey of Florida, and Mariah and Leanne Toohey of Candia, N.H.; great-niece, Regina Mally; and great-nephews, Michael and Danny Phillips; as well as dear friends of the community of Sant' Egidio.

ARRANGEMENTS: Visiting hours in the Lehman Reen & McNamara Funeral Home, 63 Chestnut Hill Ave. (near Brighton Courthouse), Brighton, Thursday from 3 to 5 p.m., followed by a prayer service at 5 p.m. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend.
