John David Kennedy, 75

John David Kennedy, 75, passed away on Tuesday, March 11, 2008 at Holmes Regional Medical Center in Melbourne, Fla.

He was a mechanical engineer for Raytheon Co. in Andover, Mass., for 27 years. He retired in June 1992 and moved to Palm Beach, Fla., from Derry, N.H.

In retirement he was an avid golfer at Crane Creek Reserve in Melbourne, Fla. He was an active member of the VFW Post 4206 in Melbourne. He was born in Biddeford, Maine, in 1932, attended school in Saco, Maine, graduating from Thornton Academy, Class of 1949. After graduation he enlisted in the U.S. Navy, serving aboard the aircraft carrier Oriskany. He was predeceasd by stepson George M. Goggin.

He is survived by his wife, Lillia (Matarozzo), of Palm Bay; brothers Erwin E. of Connecticut and Robert B. of Maine; daughter Gail of Biddeford, Maine; as well as several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law and nieces and nephews.

A celebration of his life for family and friends will be held on March 28, 2008, at the VFW Post, Dairy Road, in Melbourne, Fla.

In lieu of flowers, contributions maybe made to VFW Post 4206.

  • Charles B. Davis, 82

    Derry, NH — Mr. Davis was born in Boston a son of the late Bernard P. and Helene L. (Ostridge) Davis. He grew up in Watertown, MA, graduating from Watertown High School and later from Boston College, class of ’57. He served with the 3rd Infantry Division, U. S. Army during the Korean Conflict from 1952-1954. Mr. Davis had been employed for many years as an Automobile Executive with Volkswagon of America. He moved to Derry, NH in 1969 and had recently been a resident of Manchester, NH. He died peacefully, surrounded by his family on Friday, May 18, 2012 at the Courville Nursing Center at the age of 82.

  • Gene T. Duston, 84

    Gene Tunney Duston , 84, husband of June C. (Green) Duston of Newcastle,Maine, died peacefully May 6, 2012 surrounded by his loving family at Cove's Edge in Damariscotta. He was born September 23, 1927 in Hampstead, NH, son of Levi E. and Myrtis C. (French) Duston. Gene graduated from Hampstead High School in 1945 and was immediately drafted into the U.S. Army. He was a member of the Hampstead Fire Department for 55 years and served on the Executive Committee, Board of Engineers and as Chief from 1957-1960. Gene served as Trustee for ten years for the Hampstead Congregational Church and was a member of the Steeple Committee. He loved working with youth in Hampstead and worked both with the Cub Scouts and Little League. Gene was also active in the community as a member of the School Building Committee for five years and was very proud of his service as Chairman of the Site Committee for the new middle school which resulted in the purchase of the 40 acres where the Hampstead Middle School was constructed. He served as Selectman from 1981-1983. He enjoyed skiing, gardening, watching the Red Sox, but most of all, he enjoyed his years with family and friends on the Bearcamp River in West Ossipee, New Hampshire.

    Derry, NH — Helen (Scott) Metts Giddis, 85 of Derry, passed away Saturday May 19, 2012 at Parkland Medical Center of Derry after a long illness. Helen was the daughter of the late Edward H. and Hazel M. (Dougan) Scott. She was predeceased by her first husband, Ernest M. Metts and her second husband, Joseph (Jim) Giddis.

  • Joseph R. Wood, 75

    Londonderry, NH — Joseph R. Wood, 75 of Londonderry, NH, passed away on Monday, May 21, 2012 at Hillsborough County Nursing Home in Goffstown following a lengthy illness.

    Born in Corning, NY on July 13, 1936, he was a son of the late Joseph and Gladys (Bardwell) Wood. Mr. Wood attended Hobert College and later graduated from UNH with a degree in Engineering. Joseph proudly served his country in the US Army, having been stationed in Taiwan. Mr. Wood spent his career working as an Engineer for Raytheon, working at several locations and traveled extensively for them. He was a member of IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) and loved fishing, camping and going on cruises with his wife.

    Londonderry, NH — Lawrence J. Parker, 64 of Londonderry, NH died Friday May 18, 2012 in the Parkland Medical Center, Derry, NH following a brief illness. Mr. Parker was born in Cambridge, MA on August 14, 1947, a son of the late Douglas F. and Laura (O’Connor) Parker. He was raised and educated in Arlington, MA, and resided in Londonderry for the past 21 years, formerly living in Tewksbury, MA. Mr. Parker was a US Navy veteran of the Vietnam Era. He was the owner and operator of Parkers Electric Service for 41 years.

    Anna Deering Stevens passed away in her home on May 10, 2012 following a brief illness. She was surrounded by family and went peacefully to rejoin her beloved husband, Russell. Anna led a full and wonderful life and will be missed by many; to know Anna, even for the briefest of moments, was to love her. She was involved in the community of Derry that she loved dearly and was one of the first women on the Derry school board. Some of her fondest memories were of square dancing the night away, summers at Winnipesaukee, her times at White Pines College and those spent with her family.

  • David Alden Bull, 73

    David A. Bull, 73, of Londonderry, NH died Monday May 14, 2012 at the Southern NH Medical Center of Nashua. He was born on February 28, 1939 in North Grafton, MA, a son of the late Robert W. and Ruth M. (Charamella) Bull. Mr. Bull was raised and educated in Grafton, MA, graduating in 1956 from Grafton High School, he later attended Northeastern University. He is a US Air Force veteran, having served with the 2nd Armament and Electronic Squadron, The Gunnery Systems Unit, the 2nd Bomb Wing and the 38th Air Division and was stationed at SAC- Hunter AFB, Savannah, GA. David was a resident of Londonderry since 1975 and had been employed for over 23 years for Honeywell, retiring as a Principle Manufacturing Engineer. In his retirement, he enjoyed building computers for Future Microsystems and friends. He also enjoyed camping, kayaking, and was a dedicated NASCAR fan.

  • Marie Madison, 85

    Marie Madison, 85 of Derry, NH died Thursday May 10, 2012 at home, after a battle with cancer. She was born November 14, 1926 in Lynn, MA, and was a daughter of the late Joseph and Alice (Rennie) King. She was raised and educated in the Lynn area. Mrs. Madison was employed for most of her working career as an Executive Administrator with various companies in the greater Boston area. She enjoyed travel, reading, puzzles, dining out, the computer and “Dancing with the Stars”. She had also been a long-time volunteer at Parkland Medical Center and was an avid bowler on many leagues at Park Lanes. Marie will forever be remembered for her love of her cat “Harley”, and her late dog “Terrie”.

    Robert Fowler passed away Wednesday, May 2, 2012. Born in Haverhill, MA. He was the son of Rosemarie Bowe of FL. and the late Robert E. Fowler Sr. of MA. He was a graduate of Haverhill Trade School class of 1969. He also earned his associates degree in HVAC at NHTC. He's survived by his wife, Janice (Lajoie) Fowler of NH. and his children Jessica Fowler of FL., Robert E. Fowler III of MA., and Joshua Fowler of NH. He's also survived by his brothers Thomas Fowler of FL, James Fowler of ME. and sisters Donna Fowler of MA., Bonnie (Fowler) Lajoie and husband Donald Lajoie of FL. He was a devoted grandfather to his 7 grandchildren. He also had 7 sister-in-laws and 8 brother-in-laws. There are several nieces, nephews, and cousins too.

    William “Bill” Sawyer died May 7, 2012. He was born in Manchester, New Hampshire, a son of Wilmot and Laura (Lupien) Sawyer, and was the 8th named William in 11 generations of his family. He lived in Derry during his youth and graduated from Pinkerton Academy, Derry, in 1949 and proudly served in the U. S. Air Force as a staff sergeant.

    Donald Bettez, 80, of Londonderry, died May 1, 2012, at his home.

    He was born in Manchester, on April 1, 1932, the son of Ernest and Estelle (Forant) Bettez. He was an Air Force Korean War Veteran. Donald owned and operated Don Bettez ERA Real Estate Company for over 30 years and was an avid fan of The Boston Red Sox. He loved the outdoors and doing yard work on his John Deer tractor. He also loved sweets especially ice cream. He enjoyed rebuilding and riding his motorcycle. He will be remembered for being generous, kind, and caring. Donald was predeceased by his wife Marion (Sconsa) Bettez in 2007, and by his daughter Deborah Proulx in 2010.

    Pauline D. Kittery, 95, of Deerfield, NH died Saturday April 28, 2012 at her home. Mrs. Kittery was born in Malden, MA on March 24, 1917, a daughter of the late John and Mollie (Coons) Julian. She had been a resident of Deerfield for the past 11 years, formerly living in Manchester and Derry, NH. She was considered an amateur opera singer continuing to sing into her mid-eighties. Pauline loved to be around children and had adopted and raised one her daughters. She had a fondness for birds and enjoyed all animals.

    David M. Gallien, 56, of Derry, NH, died Thursday April 19, 2012 at his home. He was born in Ft. Devens, MA on February 5, 1956, a son of Frances J. (Havens) Gallien of Derry, and the late Francis E. Gallien. As a youth, he played basketball, baseball and football, playing in the All Stars with all three sports while his father served in the military. He had been employed as a Union carpenter in Connecticut working in high rise buildings, as well as a building contractor in the Southern NH area. David was an avid golfer and a member of the Hoodkroft Country Club in Derry for many years. He enjoyed skiing in his younger years.

    Leo W. Archambault, Jr., 73, of Derry, formerly of Sandown, died peacefully at his residence Monday April 23, 2012. He was born September 1, 1938, in Haverhill, MA, and was a son of the late Leo W., Sr., and Cora (Fournier) Archambault. Leo was raised and educated in Haverhill, and was a graduate of Haverhill Trade School. Mr. Archambault was a longtime resident of Danville, and also resided in Sandown, prior to moving to Derry in 1995.

  • Thaddeus (Todd) H. Salamenta, 89

    Thaddeus (Todd) H. Salamenta, 89, of Agawam and formerly of South Branch Parkway, Springfield, died Tuesday, April 17, 2012 at the Holyoke Soldiers Home. Thaddeus, a son of the late Frank and Walterina (Sedicki) Salamenta was born in New Britain, CT on December 12, 1922. Raised in New Britain he graduated from New Britain High School. He attended St. Mary’s Seminary in Michigan and graduated from the National Institute of Dry Cleaning. Thaddeus was the proprietor of Veterans Cleaners in Newington, CT. He then worked as the manager of Flair Cleaners on Wilbraham Road, Springfield and for Interstate Laundry, Springfield. Thaddeus worked for 20 years as a retail merchandizer for several companies and retired at the age of 82. He resided in Newington, CT most of his life and in Springfield for 35 years, was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church, and a member of the Knights of Columbus since 1958 and currently Council 63 of Springfield Massachusetts. Thaddeus served his country during WWII with the United States Navy and attained the rank of Pharmacist Mate 3rd Class and received the American Theatre Medal, the Asiatic Pacific Medal with two stars, the European Theatre Medal with 1 star, and the Philippine Liberation Medal. He enjoyed model trains and was an avid Lionel train collector. In retirement he spent five wonderful years at Heritage Woods in Agawam. Thaddeus’ family extends a very special thank you to all those who cared for him at the Holyoke Soldiers Home. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his wife of 50 years Mary Katherine (McMahon) Salamenta who died in 1996, a brother George Salamenta, and a sister, Regina Robinson. Thaddeus is survived by his children, Thomas W. Salamenta and his wife Anne-Marie of Agawam, Joan Marie Brown and her husband James of Derry, NH, and William T. Salamenta of Boston; two granddaughters, Julia Salamenta and Megan Brown; two sister-in-laws, Helen Weir and Joan Himmelsbach.
