David F. Strakalaitis, 78

Sheboygan, Wis. — David F. Strakalaitis, 78, of Sheboygan, Wis., passed away Sunday, October 21. David was born December 3, 1933 in Chicago to the late William and Anne (Slapelis) Strakalaitis. He served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. On August 22, 1959, David married Virginia McElroy, with whom he shared 53 years of marriage.

A graduate of the Illinois Institute of Technogy, David was employed as a mechanical engineer and sales director at Hayssen Manufacturing for 30 years. Dave enjoyed traveling the world. He loved jazz music and belonged to several jazz clubs. He was an avid golfer and volunteered at the John Michael Kohler Arts Center.

David is survived by his wife Virginia; three sons, Gregory (Nancy) of Parchment, Mich., Jeffrey (Judith) of Derry, N.H., and Christopher (Lydia) of Milwaukee, Wis.; one daughter, Jennifer (Thomas) Albanese of Sheboygan, Wis.; ten grandchildren, Tara, Erin, and Mason Strakalaitis, William and Benjamin Strakalaitis, Timothy and Clinton Kreuziger, and Savanna Nelson, and Madeline and Katie Albanese; and two nephews, Daniel and James Struck. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, William Struck.

David was the life of the party, always interesting to talk to, and will be missed by all whose lives he touched.

    Derry, NH — Georgiene "Mae" Inglis, 83, of Derry, N.H., passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 6, 2013, in her home surrounded by her loving children. She was born on March 22, 1930, in Boston, Mass., the only child of George and Mary (MacIntyre) MacFarlane. Mrs. Inglis was a resident of Derry for more than 45 years, and many may remember her smiling face in the Pinkerton Academy cafeteria or at the Old Colony gas station on Crystal Avenue. She loved to travel and would go anywhere and everywhere! She also enjoyed her garden, her hot air balloon rides, her trips to River John and Dartmouth/Halifax, Nova Scotia, but most of all, she adored her family and dear friends above all.

  • Raymond Paquin, 90

    Derry, NH — Raymond Paquin, 90, of Derry, N.H., died Saturday, June 8, 2013, in the Parkland Medical Center in Derry. He was born in Derry on April 15, 1923, a son of the late Ephrem J. and Exilda (Baron) Paquin, and had been a lifelong resident. Mr. Paquin was a U.S. Army WWII veteran and a member of the D.A.V. Chapter #1 in Manchester. He was a member of the Carpenters Local Union #1688 and #625 of Manchester, and had been employed by Hermsdorf Fixtures in Manchester for 35 years. Mr. Paquin was a lifelong member of St. Thomas Aquinas Church in Derry.

Morrill was a son of the late Arthur L. and Irene (Eddy) Morrill. He was raised and educated in Derry and was a 1955 graduate of Pinkerton Academy.

    Derry, NH — Carol A. Morrison, 77, of Derry, N.H., died Wednesday May 29, 2013, in the Parkland Medical Center in Derry. She was born in S. Weymouth, Mass., on February 21, 1936, a daughter of the late William M. and Cecilia A. (Hayes) Gallahue. Carol had been a resident of Derry since 1960, formerly living in S. Weymouth, Mass. She was a graduate of Pinkerton Academy, Class of 1953 in Derry, and a graduate of Mt. Auburn Hospital in Cambridge, Mass., Class of 1956. Carol had been employed at various hospitals and institutions in Southern New Hampshire, retiring from Birchwood Nursing Home in Derry after 20 years. She was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Church in Derry.

    Brighton — Elizabeth “Betty” N. (Stone) Toohey, 84, of Brighton, passed away on May 28, 2013, at The Pope Nursing Home in Weymouth after a courageous battle with cancer. Betty was born in Boston on November 17, 1928, daughter to the late Elizabeth (MacLachlan) and Eugene Stone. Betty attended the Roslindale public schools and graduated from Roslindale High School.

    Pembroke, NH — Susan Ann Zdunko, 48, of Pembroke, N.H., died Sunday June 2, 2013, at her brother’s home in Hampton, N.H., following a courageous battle with cancer. Sue was born in Freeport, N.Y., on March 30, 1965, a daughter of Judith (Kerzner) Zdunko-Blair and the late Anthony Zdunko Jr. She was a 1983 graduate of Pinkerton Academy in Derry, N.H., and later attended New Hampshire Technical Institute. Sue resided in Pembroke for the past year, formerly living in Rutland, Vt., Claremont, and Derry, N.H. She was employed as regional operations manager for Citizen’s Bank. Sue enjoyed golf, bicycling, photography, country music, and a nice glass of red wine. She loved lighthouses and the ocean, but mostly living life.

  • 1st Lt. Paul M. DeMeo, 23

    Derry, NH — U.S. Army Ranger 1st Lt. Paul M. DeMeo, 23, of Derry, N.H. died unexpectedly May 14 while stationed at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. Paul was serving as a rifle platoon leader for Company B, 2nd Battalion, 505th Infantry, 3rd Brigade Combat Team. Born at U.S. Army Kwajalein Atoll in the Marshall Islands on Oct. 1, 1989, Paul was a 2011 graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering Management. He was a 2007 graduate of Pinkerton High School. He joined the 2nd/505th in August 2012. Paul was a 2012 graduate of the Infantry Officer Leadership Basic Course, U.S. Army Ranger School and U.S. Army Airborne School. In his current assignment as a rifle platoon leader, Paul was responsible for leading an airborne infantry platoon capable of deploying in 18 hours to fight and win against a determined enemy. He was responsible for the health, welfare and performance of 38 paratroopers; as well as the care and accountability of more than $500,000 worth of unit equipment.

    Derry, NH — Mark D. Haynes, Sr., 72, of Derry, N.H., died Thursday May 16, 2013, at his home in Derry, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Brighton, Mass., on August 22, 1940, a son of the late Dewey O. and Elizabeth (Floyd) Haynes, and had been a resident of Derry for the past 32 years, formerly living in Brookline, Mass. He was a graduate of St. Columbkille High School in Brighton. Mr. Haynes was a U.S. Army veteran serving during Vietnam. He worked for over 30 years for Cambridge Brands in Cambridge, Mass. He enjoyed golfing and woodworking.

  • Ruth T. Wells, 88

    Sierra Madre, CA — Ruth Wells, 88, passed away peacefully on May 17, 2013, at The British Home in Sierra Madre, Calif. She was born June 9, 1924 in Londonderry, N.H., the youngest of three children of the late Prescott and Dorothy (Boyden) Torrey. She graduated from Pinkerton Academy in Derry, N.H., and later married her high school sweetheart, Donald C. Wells, becoming a Navy wife. After WWII, they settled down in Londonderry, where she was a member of the local chapter of The Grange and the Londonderry Presbyterian Church. After raising her three children, she and Don moved to Meredith, N.H., on the grounds of the Waukewan Golf Club, where she became an avid golfer. For many years she divided her time between homes in Meredith and Crystal River, Fla. Her husband of 54 years died in 1997.

  • Mervin Crabb, 81

    Palm Bay, FL — Mervin L. Crabb, 81, formerly of Derry, N.H., departed this life on Friday, May 10, 2013, in Palm Bay, Fla. Born on August 29, 1931, in Derry, Mervin was the child of the late Harland and Gladys Worster-Crabb. In 1953, he became a dedicated firefighter for the Derry Fire Department and was the first to achieve the rank of Deputy Fire Chief in the Town of Derry. He was also a proud member of the New Hampshire Fire Chief Association. Following retirement in 1986, he spent most of his golden years fishing, camping and traveling. Mervin and the love of his life, Patricia, relocated to Palm Bay, Fla., in 1993 where they enjoyed making new friends.

    Manchester By The Sea, MA — Virginia S. Ball, 87, of Rockport, Mass., died Sunday, May 12, 2013, at the Den-Mar Nursing Home in Rockport, Mass., surrounded by her loving family. She was born on January 18, 1926, in Exeter, N.H., a daughter of the late Everard and Dorothy (Dearborn) Smith. Raised and educated in Derry, Ginny resided in Manchester by the Sea for more than 50 years. She was a graduate of Pinkerton Academy, Class of 1944 and was very active in sports. Following high school, she played basketball for the Derry Pin-ups. Ginny enjoyed her summer day on Singing Beach, traveling, and gardening. She was an avid Red Sox and Patriots fan, and enjoyed puzzles and entertaining her family. Ginny served most recently on the resident board at the Den-Mar Nursing Home.

    Londonderry, NH — Shirley W. Gilcreast, 86, passed away Tuesday, May 7, 2013, at the Elliot Hospital in Manchester surrounded by her loving family. She was born on April 12, 1927, in Nashua, N.H., a daughter of the late Neil and Fannie (Robie) Watts. Mrs. Gilcreast was a resident of Villa Crest Nursing Home for two years, formerly living in Derry, Sandown, and many years in Londonderry. She was the organist at Londonderry Presbyterian Church for over 47 years. She enjoyed playing cribbage and Yahtzee, as well as reading and quilting. Mrs. Gilcreast loved her family and spending time with them. She was a very kind, compassionate, and loving woman who always put others needs before her own.
