Doris "Anne" Clinton, 86

Londonderry, NH — Doris Ann (“Anne”) Clinton passed peacefully away in her home on July 16th, 2012 in Londonderry, New Hampshire, with loved ones by her side. Anne was blessed to be in her own home thanks to the support from her amazing hospice team during these last six months.

Anne was born in Fairmont, West Virginia on August 14, 1925, to two loving parents, Dr. James Clinton and his wife Beulah Lorraine. From her two parents and two older sisters, Barbara and Christine, Anne received the gifts of wit, wisdom, humor, a youthful view on life, Scottish thriftiness, and, as all of the women in Anne’s family from her five daughters to her five granddaughters will attest, beautiful Scottish legs. In 1946, Anne graduated from the University of Miami with a degree in elementary education and accepted a position in Cambridge, Massachusetts as a first-year teacher.

In 1948, Anne married Dr. Thomas Haymond, also of Fairmont, West Virginia, and they raised seven children in Freeport, Illinois, where Dr. Tom began his practice as an internist. When they divorced in 1964, Anne went back to teaching full-time and raised the children on her own. She continued teaching in Freeport, Illinois, then continued her career in Miami and finished up teaching sixth grade in Fairmont, West Virginia. After thirty-years of teaching, she retired to live in Londonderry, New Hampshire, to be closer to two of her children and several grandchildren. During that time, she worked at Applewood School and was a faithful volunteer at the Elliot Hospital for many years.

Anne loved to travel, especially to her father’s homeland of Scotland. She also loved to get in the car and drive to the family camp in West Virginia, “Glenburnie,” where the family would gather every summer. On a warm sunny day, she would wake up early, pack up for the day and head to Rye Beach. Each winter, she would drive herself down to Florida to be near the ocean, another one of her favorite places, where she would walk the beach for miles collecting sea glass and listening to the waves.

Anne is survived by her seven children: Suzanne River and Don Lewis, of Lindstrom, Minnesota; Frank Haymond, Jr. of Eagle Rock, Virginia; Lorraine and Larry Lordi, of Londonderry, New Hampshire; Thomas and Joy Haymond, Jr., of Indian Harbour, Florida; Barbara Waganaar, of Satellite Beach, Florida; Marikaye and Al Garnett, of Hudson, New Hampshire; and Annie Laurie Hall, of Daniels, West Viriginia. She also leaves her most faithful caretaker and friend, Ginny Powers-Collins, of Londonderry, New Hampshire, without whom she could not have thrived the last three years of her life. She also leaves a thriving legacy of 17 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren, who will remember “Granna” and “Gigi” for the cards and little gifts she never failed to send them on their birthdays and other special occasions.

ARRANGEMENTS: Services will be private back in Anne’s beloved hometown of Fairmont, West Virginia. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in her name to the VNA of Manchester and Southern New Hampshire, 1070 Holt Avenue, Suite 1400, Manchester, New Hampshire, 03109. As Anne said, her caring team of doctors, nurses, aides, and social workers became her guardian angels and her best new friends during the final months of her long and blessed life. The Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 15 Birch St., Derry, NH is handling the arrangements. To send a condolence or for more information, please visit, www.peabodyfuneralhome.com
