Arthur H. Watts, 85

Arthur H. Watts, 85, a longtime resident of Derry, N.H., died Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2008 at his daughter's home in Strafford, N.H.

Mr. Watts was born in Londonderry, N.H. on Dec. 8, 1922, a son of the late Arthur and Eva (Walsh) Watts.

Mr. Watts served with the U.S. Army Air Forces during World War II.

He founded Space Town Taxi in Derry.

In 1973 he was honored by the Town of Derry with the Citizenship Award, as he was always helping people and was a very generous man.

He was a member and Past Commander of the VFW Post #1617 in Derry where he also worked construction following the fire there. He was a member of the Cooties, as well the Eagles Club in Derry.

Mr. Watts served as a bartender at the VFW and owned rental property on Wall Street in Derry. In addition, he worked as a security guard for Allied Security in Bedford, N.H.

He is survived by his wife, Ruth (Hewitt) Watts Derry; two daughters, Judy Griffin and Bonnie Schofield, both of Strafford; two stepdaughters, Brenda Layne and Laurie Genest; eight grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; two sisters, Meryl Delisle of Sacramento, Calif., Charlotte Watts of Rochester, N.H. He was predeceased by a daughter, June H.; and by a stepson; two brothers, Clyde and Paul; and a sister, Dot.

ARRANGEMENTS: Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 3, 2008 in the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 15 Birch St., Derry. Funeral services will be held on Monday in the funeral home.
