Richard P. Apgar, 79
Richard Perry Apgar, 79, of East Derry, N.H. died suddenly at his home on Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2008.
Richard was born on May 1, 1928 in High Bridge, N.J., the son of the late Nevious C. and Olive (Perry) Apgar. He married Gladys Elizabeth Perry on June 19, 1954 and in 1968 they moved to East Derry where they have lived since.
He retired in 1993 after 25 years with Sanders Associates where he had been employed as a laser scientist.
While his sons were scouts, he served as Cub Master of Pack 405 in East Derry for six years. A very supportive and encouraging father, he helped his sons build several Soap Box Derby racecars and his daughter with horseback riding.
Richard was a talented stage designer and singer for the Nashua Chapter of Barbershop Chorus and demonstrated great imagination and creativity. In addition, he played many instruments including the piano, bass fiddle and flute. He enjoyed performing magic for the children at the Taylor Library in East Derry where he was also a trustee.
He was a member of the First Parish Church in East Derry where he began the Cherub Choir teaching children to sing. Richard was a member of St. Mark's Masonic Lodge 44 F&AM in Derry and served as past worshipful master and a member of Bell Chapter. He was also a member of the Israel Hunt Council 8 R&SM.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Gladys (Perry) Apgar of E. Derry, his son Keith Russell Apgar of Dunbarton, his daughter Lenore Anne Coombs of Manchester, his son Matthew Dean Apgar of Epsom, nine grandchildren, one great-grandchild and one cousin.
ARRANGEMENTS: There are no calling hours. Following cremation, a memorial service will be held Sunday, Jan. 13, at 2 p.m. at the First Parish Congregational Church, 47 East Derry Road, East Derry, N.H. Barbara L. Bailey, 87
Barbara L. Bailey, 87, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, born in Hillsboro, N.H. on Nov. 2, 1920 entered into eternal rest on Dec. 23, 2007 in San Antonio, Texas.
She married Elwyn A. Bailey, formerly of Derry, N.H. on Sept. 19, 1942.
Her parents Daniel and Rose Donegan and brother Herman Donegan preceded her in death. She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Elwyn A. Bailey; and four children, two daughters, Lynn (Donald) Coulombe of Boerne, Texas and Barbara (Jack) Allen of Issaquah, Wash.; and two sons, Douglas Bailey of Littleton, Colo. and Donald Bailey of Connecticut; a brother, Donald (Jan) Donegan of Montgomery, Texas; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
ARRANGEMENTS: A memorial service will be held at the gravesite on a later date in Hillsboro, N.H.
Richard W. Fisher, 58
Richard W. Fisher, 58, of Londonderry, N.H., died Saturday, Jan. 12, 2008 in the Parkland Medical Center, Derry, N.H.
Mr. Fisher was born in Paterson, N.J. on March 17, 1949, a son of the late George and Madeline (Meyer) Fisher.
He was a resident of Londonderry since 1981, formerly living in Hollywood, Fla. as well as Paterson and Clifton, N.J.
Mr. Fisher graduated from the University of Northern Colorado, in Greeley, Colo.
As the result of a career change, Mr. Fisher was able to travel more often and spend more time with his family. His most recent travels included a trip to Budapest, Hungary and the Hawaiian islands.
Mr. Fisher was a communicant of St. Marks Church in Londonderry and also enjoyed watching sports.
He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Diane (Davis) Fisher of Londonderry; two daughters, Christine Pollock and her husband Daniel of Dunbarton, N.H., Andrea Fisher of Manchester, N.H.; two grandchildren, Diana Pollock and Brian Pollock, both of Dunbarton; a brother, George Fisher of Lambertville, N.J.; a sister, Madeline Ulrich of Union, N.J.; a nephew, Paul Ulrich Jr. of Kenilworth, N.J.; two nieces, Amy Randazzo of Flemington, N.J. and Rebecca Fisher of Philadelphia.
ARRANGEMENTS: Calling hours were held on Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2008 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. in the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 290 Mammoth Road, Londonderry. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Wednesday at 10 a.m. in St. Mark's Church, corner of South Road and Mammoth Road, Londonderry. The burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Manchester. Louis Oliveri, 89
Louis "Lou Oliver" Oliveri, 89, a resident of Windham for the past 11 years, and a former long-time resident of 8 Baldwin St., Haverhill, died Friday evening, Jan. 11, 2008 at Parkland Medical Center in Derry, N.H.
Born in Haverhill, son of the late Ettore "Tony" and Faustina (Simone) Oliveri, he attended Haverhill public schools and Haverhill High School. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was a recipient of the American Theater Campaign Ribbon, The Asiatic Pacific Theater Campaign Ribbon, The Philippine Liberation Ribbon with Bronze Service Star, and The World War II Victory Medal.
A resident of Haverhill for most of his life, and former member of the First Baptist Church, Mr. Oliveri worked as a laster in the local shoe industry and served as a shop steward at the former Hartman Shoe Co.
A self-taught musician and member of the Haverhill Musicians Union, Local 302, he was accomplished at playing drums, bass, and violin. In his early years, he played with the Glenn Miller Orchestra and the Al Vega Band and was a member of the former Montana Ramblers Band.
Mr. Oliveri established Lou Oliver and His Orchestra, and played locally at weddings and other social functions and in local clubs. He took part in Leonard Bernstein's 80th Birthday Celebration Concert, and entertained former President George H. W. Bush, and also played for the Boston Policemen's Ball.
The husband of the late Doris (Smart) Oliveri, he is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Michael Balles of Windham; three grandchildren, Louis Iaci and his wife Tracey of Rhode Island, Lisa Iaci and her husband Timothy Travers of Lowell and Thomas Iaci and his wife Crystal of Derry; five great-grandchildren, Thomas Travers, Olivia Travers, Justin Iaci, Brooke Iaci and Kayla Iaci; and several nieces and nephews.
ARRANGEMENTS: Relatives and friends called on Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2008 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Berube-Comeau Funeral Home, 47 Broadway, Haverhill. His funeral was held on Wednesday at 10 a.m. at the Berube-Comeau Funeral Home, followed by burial with military honors in Linwood Cemetery, Haverhill.
