Veterans Day is Nov. 11, and Derry and Londonderry honor their vets with special activities and celebrations.

On Nov. 9, East Derry Memorial Elementary School students and staff will honor veterans with a special reception and celebration beginning at 9 a.m. Gov. John Lynch is invited to attend.

Pinkerton Academy Class of 2014 students will present the annual breakfast for veterans and their families on Nov. 11 from 7 to 9:30 a.m. at the school’s Academy Building cafe. The meal is open to all area seniors and is free.

Derry’s town Veterans Day ceremony is set for Nov. 11 at 10:30 a.m. at MacGregor Park. Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1617 and American Legion officials will lead the service that includes special guests, patriotic music and proclamations from town and state officials.

Following the ceremony, VFW and American Legion members invite the public to open house events at their post locations.

Also in Derry, Central Congregational Church at 14 Crescent St. invites members of the military community to join the congregation on Nov. 11 for a special Veterans Day Recognition Service.

The event begins at 11 a.m. and includes patriotic music, videos and times for remembrance and appreciation of past and present servicemen and women. Call for information at 219-9047.

A free car wash is offered on Nov. 11 for all veterans and military personnel at Royal “t” Car Wash at 20 Folsom Road in Derry.

The car wash will offer the veteran deal in conjunction with more than 1,900 other car wash locations through the Grace for Vets Free Wash Program.

Free washes will be given from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and will be done rain or shine. Visit to find other car wash locations that are offering the free veteran service.

In Londonderry, the American Legion Post 27 hosts a parade Nov. 10 from 11:30 a.m.

The parade heads down Mammoth Road from Londonderry High School to the Town Common.

Police and fire officials, town officials, state representatives, veterans, and Boy and Girl Scouts are all invited to march in the parade. Londonderry High School’s marching band, The Marching Lancers, will also be performing in the parade.

There will be food, refreshments and entertainment to follow at the American Legion post at 6 Sargent Road for veterans and their guests.
