---- — LONDONDERRY — The town’s arts group continues to grow.
The Londonderry Arts Council is in its ninth year of bringing art, music and other special cultural events to town.
Sculptor Jason Williams, the group’s new chairman, gave an update to town councilors Monday night.
The group is going strong, Williams said, with three shows a year.
The group is known for its annual Art in Action events and Art on the Common art shows, which put the spotlight on area artists.
Artists typically create their art on the spot, something Williams said makes the shows more interactive and personal for visitors.
“You have to showcase what you do,” he said.
The Art on the Common show in September is always a big success, he said, as is the spring offering.
During the summer, the popular Concerts on the Common music series also fall under the council’s programming schedule.
The Arts Council hosts monthly art exhibits at Leach Library.
The group continues to expand on its programming and hopes to bring in new events, including a collaboration with the NH Theater Factory to bring musicals and shows to town.
Finding the right venue for those type of performances is a key goal.
“We are looking at new venues for hosting new events,” Williams said. “We are also branching out on social media, a new and exciting way to entice people to see our presence.”
Local businesses also hosts regular art shows, part of a successful partnership.
Town Councilor Tom Dolan said the Arts Council is a good group that adds a lot to life in Londonderry.
“They bring significant added culture to the community,” he said.
