Orchard Christian Fellowship celebrates opening

By Julie Huss

---- — LONDONDERRY — It’s official. The town’s newest church has opened its doors.

Orchard Christian Fellowship on Pillsbury Road celebrated its new facility with a ribbon-cutting ceremony Sept. 6.

Town and school officials, residents and church parishioners gathered at the church for a morning ceremony.

The new multi-purpose building, known as “The Orchard,” stands adjacent to the Londonderry Presbyterian Church and offers a brand-new worship space for the congregation, now at about 300 people and still growing.

Two large screens stand at either side of the new altar area in the bright sanctuary. The church will also offer a new Saturday night “Unplugged at the Orchard” service at 6 p.m.

There is also a lobby area, office space and nursery.

Ground was broken in November 2012 for the 5,800-square-foot building. There is parking for up to 100 vehicles.

Pastor Ken Glasier said the congregation recently donated baskets of apples to homeless people in Manchester. He said now that the new church is open, it’s time for a continued bounty of goodwill and messages of faith.

He has served The Orchard for five years. He said parishioners were very generous with their financial pledges to support the new building.

Glasier told visitors that The Orchard is a special place to worship and everyone pitched in to make the new church happen — a true testament to the congregation’s faith and level of commitment.

“We are seeing a different sort of harvest here,” he said. “This is one step in a long process.”
