---- — LONDONDERRY — Orchard Christian Fellowship is making it official.
The church will celebrate its new facility with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Sept. 6 at 10 a.m.
The new church is located at 136 Pillsbury Road, next to the Presbyterian Church.
The new multi-purpose building offers a brand-new worship space for the growing congregation, now at about 300 people.
There is also a lobby area, office space and nursery.
Ground was broken in November 2012 for the 5,800-square-foot building. There is also parking for up to 100 vehicles.
“The Orchard is excited about being in our first facility, a place for our community to love God, love people and live God’s message,” Pastor Ken Glasier said.
During construction, Glasier said the new church design resembled an old-fashioned church, one that would fit nicely into the rural landscape on Pillsbury Road.
The church, known as “The Orchard,” has been in existence since 2008 after it split from Londonderry Presbyterian Church, located adjacent to the new building.
The 15 acres of land was awarded to the Orchard congregation after some legal battles followed the split. The project cost approximately $1 million.
The Orchard hosts a Sunday morning worship service at 9:30 a.m. On Sept. 14, the church will host a special Saturday evening worship event with an “unplugged” style of music and conversation.
Glasier has served the Orchard for five years. He said parishioners were very generous with their financial pledges to support the new building.
He said The Orchard is a special place to worship and everyone pitched in to make the new church happen — a true testament to the congregation’s faith and level of commitment.
