LONDONDERRY — Town employees honored their fire chief, who will be leaving his post next month.
Fire Chief Kevin MacCaffrie, 62, announced he would retire March 1 after serving in the department’s top job for five years.
The town honored the chief with a retirement party at the Moose Hill Council Chambers on Feb. 15.
MacCaffrie came to Londonderry in 2008, after serving as fire chief in Bedford, Mass., taking the reins after the departure of longtime chief Michael Carrier.
His fire career has spanned 47 years, beginning as a call firefighter in Norton, Mass. He was also Bedford’s fire chief for seven years.
MacCaffrie said he enjoyed working in Londonderry and would assist the town as officials seek new leadership.
“I will help with a smooth transition,” he said.
That transition includes having Battalion Chief Darren O’Brien serving as the department’s interim chief.
