---- — LONDONDERRY — The School Board has a new leader.
Leitha Reilly was unanimously chosen as the board’s new chairman during a reorganizational meeting March 18.
Former chairman Nancy Hendricks, re-elected to a new three-year term last month, will assume vice chairman duties.
Board member Steve Young was also nominated for the second-in-command seat, but declined the nomination.
He said he appreciated the measure, but cited work and family commitments as reasons not to take the job.
He heralded Hendricks as the best choice to be vice chairman.
“I think Nancy did a fine job last year (as chairman) and I appreciated her management of the group,” Young said. “I think she’ll be a good help to Leitha.”
In addition, the School Board has a new secretary as Darlene McCarthy was approved for the district job, taking over for Mary Soares who stepped down this year.
Young congratulated Soares for her successful job performance. She received flowers and a standing ovation.
“Our records have always been accurate,” he said.
