LONDONDERRY — These students are cooking up a storm to honor diversity and culture.
Members of Londonderry High School’s International Club hosted a Chinese cooking class last week to honor the diversity of different cultures around the world.
The club is planning its second annual International Night at the high school May 31 from 5 to 8 p.m. The event includes exhibits showcasing club members views on culture and their own personal heritage.
Club advisor Betty Wong-Mak said the night helps celebrate the town’s diversity and ethnicity.
“Throughout the year we have been learning about the French, Welsh, Chinese, Korean, Italian, Pakinstan and Russian (cultures),” she said. “We learn via speakers, food and media presentations.”
Students also gain valuable knowledge about each other’s cultural backgrounds, Mak said.
“The International Club allows people of different colors and ethnic backgrounds to embrace the differences among us,” she said.
International Night also includes games, food demonstrations and cultural dances.
