LONDONDERRY — Sen. Sharon Carson, R-Londonderry, defended her District 14 seat against Democratic opponent Katherine Messner.
Carson defeated Messner, 13,706 to 10,448 votes.
Messner lost in all three towns in District 14, Auburn, Londonderry and her hometown of Hudson.
Messner received 4,689 votes in Hudson and Carson 5,451.
Carson and Messner campaigned in all three towns on Election Day.
Carson said she was suprised with the number of voters in Londonderry, where turnout toped 80 perscent and the last ballot went in nearly two hours after the polls were supposed to have closed.
A flurry of new voters, some 1,200, registered at the polls Tuesday, delaying the process.
Carson has been serving as the state senator for District 14 since 2008 and served as a state representative for eight years.
She congratulated and thanked other candidates, and said she was looking forward to working with everyone on the largely Republican ticket in Londonderry.
