DERRY — Sometimes the messages are simple.
“Dear Santa Fund, you helped bring a smile to my daughter’s face.”
The writer of those words just wanted to say thank you.
The Derry News Santa Fund has spent 26 years bringing smiles to many faces at the holidays.
With so many families and individuals struggling this season, it’s the mission of the Santa Fund to bring joy and holiday hope to those needing it most.
Area businesses, schools and organizations are pitching in to help, with fundraisers, special events and collections planned to support the Santa fund.
Advanced Hair in Derry hosted a “cut-a-thon” event to support the fund. St. Mark’s Masonic Lodge members donated $200 and also gave money to other charities, including Community Caregivers of Greater Derry, Sonshine Soup Kitchen and the First Baptist Church Food Pantry.
Enterprise Bank will have donation jars at teller windows and will raffle off a holiday tree and lottery tickets to support the Santa Fund.
The list is long of those offering their help. More than $7,400 has been collected to date.
