LONDONDERRY — A Sherwood Road couple will be able to open a family day care at their home.
The Zoning Board granted a special exception allowing Brian and Rebecca Lehman to operate a child care business out of their home at 44 Sherwood Drive.
The couple appeared before the board April 16 to give details of their plan.
“It will be small to start,” Rebecca Lehman told officials, “only five to seven kids.”
The operation could expand up to 11 children, but the couple said they wanted to keep the operation small.
Lehman also said she didn’t believe the business would impact the neighborhood at all. Children would be confined to a fenced-in play area when outside and away from the main road, or other parts of the home property.
Parents would drop off their children as early as 6:30 a.m. and then pick them up after work. The business would close at 6 p.m.
Lehman’s mother would also be assisting with the day care business.
The fire department already inspected the home. The Lehmans have two children of their own who would be included in the total number of children being cared for in the home business.
There will also be a small sign located at the home’s mailbox to advertise the business. All state licensing and other permits would be in place prior to the business officially opening.
Brian Lehman said the home business is a way for the couple to care for their own children and also give other parents an opportunity to place their children in a safe environment.
“We really wanted to do something that will not only help our family, but other families in the process,” he said.
