LONDONDERRY — Town planners heard details about another development plan to provide housing options for people living and working in town.
NeighborWorks Southern New Hampshire hopes to build 78 workforce housing units on Trail Haven Drive.
Representatives came before the Planning Board last week with preliminary details on the plan.
There would be about 10 units per acre of land, falling within the town’s rules for allowed density on that tract of property. The units would be in the style of townhouses.
This project joins another workforce housing plan coming to town with a 240-unit apartment, eight-building complex planned for Perkins Road.
That project, known as Wallace Farm, is located near Exit 5 off Interstate 93.
Wallace Farm developers told officials during their application process that this type of housing is needed in Londonderry, offering lower-cost rental units for people who work in the area.
A study prepared by the town’s Community Development Department in 2009 explained the workforce housing laws and what it means to citizens.
The study noted Londonderry has the potential for up to 5,000 new jobs in the airport area alone, with a rising need for housing for workers who may move into the area.
