LONDONDERRY — The snow piles are melting and it’s time to think about what lies beneath.
Beautify Londonderry leads the town cleanup efforts this year between May 4 and 27. The initiative is due mostly to the many volunteers who give their time to work together and clean up their neighborhoods and nearby areas.
Residents can volunteer individually or as a group. Projects to be tackled this spring include picking up roadside litter, landscaping the community, and cleaning school and town properties.
Some groups focus on certain projects like the roads and trails. Other take on the fields and specific properties like the Town Common, Senior Center and Musquash Conservation Area.
Young people can also use the cleanup efforts to help plan and perform community service projects. Neighborhoods can take on projects and join together to help the town while having fun at the same time.
Sponsors and donations help pay for the items used, including rakes, gloves and trash bags.
Police and highway crews will also be involved to help pick up the roadside litter collected and make sure everyone taking part in the cleaning efforts is safe.
There are police escorts during roadside litter collection and the pick-up of materials once collected. The goal is to keep the activities as safe and as easy as possible.
