Dig in at indoor plant program

LONDONDERRY — On Thursday, Aug. 12, at 7 p.m., Leach Library will host "Tips for Growing Healthy Indoor Plants" with University of New Hampshire professor Cheryl Smith.

The presentation will feature tips and techniques for ensuring indoor plant health, and what to do should a problem arise. It is being held as part of the library's new Adult Summer Reading Program focused on the theme "Water Your Mind - Read."

Smith received her doctoral degree from the University of New Hampshire, where she is currently an extension professor of plant biology and specialist for plant health. She is the director of the Plant Diagnostic Laboratory for the Cooperative Extension program at UNH, where she assists New Hampshire residents and businesses in identifying and remedying problems, including ways to treat without using chemicals.

Smith has used her extensive experience as a specialist for plant health to create this program on how to keep indoor plants healthy.

She will include information on how to identify plant problems, what to do to correct each problem and how to prevent them from happening in the future.

A garden-themed door prize will be raffled off at the program.

The program is being coordinated through the UNH Speakers Bureau, which connects faculty and staff speakers with nonprofit organizations to share the research and knowledge of the university with the people and communities of New Hampshire.

The event is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be served.
