Londonderry police honor officers with mulitple awards

LONDONDERRY — The Londonderry Police Department received multiple nominations, but Officer Jason Teufel was named 2011 Officer of the Year Monday.

"May is National Law Enforcement month," said Sgt. Patrick Cheetham, the awards committee chairman. "The awards are from acts performed by our officers during 2011. They are but a fraction of police and emergency services we provide on a daily basis."

He recalled several officers injured or killed in the line of duty over the past several years, the most recent being the shooting death of Greenland police Chief Michael Maloney. Members of the Londonderry department responded to the shooting last month where four other officers were injured during a drug search. During the hour-long ceremony, many officers were named for awards given out by police Chief William Hart.

Teufel, is a six-year veteran of the police department.

He also serves as a defensive tactic instructor, firearms instructor, and tactical officer on the Southern N.H. Special Operations Unit, a regional SWAT team.

Telecommunications operator Jason Pinault, a 12-year veteran of the police department, was awarded the 2011 Civilian of the Year Award. He is a multiple recipient of this award.

A Commendation Bar for Meritorious Act was presented to Cheetham, Officer Randy Dyer, Officer Jake King and telecommunications operator Maria Schacht for safely taking a suicidal man into custody on Oct. 31, 2011.

Officer Sean Doyle was awarded a Commendation Bar for Metorious Action for investigating a fraudulent check in February 2011. Also receiving this award were officers Matthew Morin and Shannon Sargent for a 9-1-1 call from a woman under the influence of drugs in March 2011.

Officer Daniel Perry received this award for intercepting an attack by someone wielding a golf club at the Shell Gas Station on Route 102 in August 2011.

Master Patrol K-9 Officer John Perry also was awarded a Commendation Bar for Metorious Service for his dedication to the Southern N.H. Special Operation Unit. King also received this award for starting up the Explorers Post last year.
